hehe, It probabaly hasn't been done because people would ruin their records easily. It's dangerous to heat vinyl, at any temperature. So I am imagining people buying this purposed product then crying to the courts it ruined their vinyl even more.


So if we could get past this legal mumbojumbo then it would be a quality product...I am imagining a huge warning label on the top of it saying, "when you close this YOU are ruining your vinyl, do not use if you want your vinyl exposed to heat and to change its shape." but even then you'll still get sued.

great idea for a home project though.....time to find some toasters at teh pawn shop and rip em apart.

perhaps it doesn't even need heat. it can just distribute even pressure across the plates (which would have to have some kind of coating to not damage the vinyl) and you leave this on. i know from personal experience that time + pressure = less warped vinyl.

I think a bit of heat would be necessary as well for forming purposes, but the pressure would need to remain in place while cooling down.

There are more than a few tracks (a.k.a. utter crap) I would be willing to "donate" to a good cause.

you arent ever going to get it properly flat again.

I had 5 records that had been in the boot of a friends car for 5 days this august (when it was mega hot (for the uk anyway) and they looked like crisps

TOTALLY unplayable.

Anyway, bit of heating with a hairdrier and bending with my hands- also using the platter to straighten it and they are playable.
Still ripples in them- but they play, thats the main thing.Ultra rare records- so i wasnt going to bin them

If they are bent anyway, you have nothing to lose

I think I am seriously going to try to make something. yes it will be utter crap, but if I could get two alluminum plate, 12", I think the hardest part is getting a material for the inside of the plates.

Something that will slightly, ever so slightly form to the record, but still keep its form in mild heat. HHHmmmmm, something that applies more heat to the center than to the outside. That would kill the cone shaped ones I always get.

Ok, Guys,.. Thanks for the replies.... I have read over the internet and I have some Good Info.. I think the Really one that could works will be the 2 Glasses one in a certain Temperature for certain time.

Well, I have bought a Pair of 2 glasses of emitted smoke Glass of 15 inch each one.... and another Pair of Crystal Glass... the Emitted Smoke ones are to reduce the Ultraviolets Rays, since ill do some experiments using the Sunlight, I also have bought a Termometer Stick to see the Glass Temperature... ill do a couple of experiments using some old Records that I dont care to loose.. all proves will be using sunlight, i could use an oven... but i prefer the sunlight.. but i could try with an oven later...

Ill firstly do with the emitted smoke glases... Ill put the Record between the 2 glaseses and put to the sunlight for certain time... ill be watching Temperature and Time.. and keep checking the record.. ill do proves with not too much Warped records and other with coplete unplyable warped records... i guess depending of the Warped Grade, the Time and Temperature could be more or less...

Of What i Have read then less temperature (Less Hot) less damage to the record.. i dont wanna screw the grooves or somethig...

Well, Thats all... Ill do the experiments next week... ill let u know what i get, so maybe we can make an Sticky thread for the ppl that have Warped Records... and Find a SOlution that fix or at least better the Record.

are you going to put any weight on them? seems like the heat would soften the vinyl but you would need pressure to hold it straight, then for it to cool down in that straight position.

Yes, I also guess should need little weight on it, but not too much... im also looking for a piece that be Circular like a Record, i dont wanna put some books on it or Uncircular Piece, well could be a book but must be a lot bigger than the Record, and must be Simetric Piece, i dont wanna Put more Weight in some parts of the record than others..

any suggestion is appreciate.

eh, only thing I can think of is to clamp the glass together. if set anything on top it will obstruct teh sunlight from warming it. and if are gonna clamp it the best thing for evenly distributed weight would be to drill a hole in the, stick a 1/4" all thread rod in it, and screw two nuts w/ washers on em.

or get a circular weight and place it in the middle of the record. then clamp the corners of the glass.

Hey Fellas.. I FIXED WASTELAND!!

It was playable but couldnt cue with it... now i can cue and mix with it!

now ill try to fix some records that are unplayable... and see if i have luck...

I used two glaess the one uder just to have the plataform... and the upper one a very Heavy one... using the sunlight... ill try to post pics later..

so.. if u have a warped one.. if is not to bad u can fix it..

anway, what kind of glass works best? it's hard to find 12x12 glass...so i am thinking of going to a thrift store and buying a few crappy pictures and taking out the frames...then putting it on top of the refrigerator with some books on top...

any advice about the glass?
and should anything be put between the glass and the vinyL?

Yeah, i was thinking about the Sites where the sunlight its gone

About the glasses...well.. i boght a 12x12 glass since here its very easy to get one.. just a site where sells windows and stuffs like that,... i put that glass on the floor.. i normal Glass at least its very clean.. u dont want to stuck stuffs in your vinyl.. upon that glass ull put the vinyl.. the difficul part is the Glass upon the Vinyl.. it must be a vey heavy glass, i used one of 24 mm of thickness and very large.. like 1m 5 50cm... I dont boght this one.. it could be very expensive.. i just used since that glass its used like a table on the dinning room, to have a drink or so.. it will need a lot of weight.. u can put a normal glass upon the disc.. but ill need lot of pounds to fix the record ... and well.. still dont get ideas of how u can put a little hot the glass. the refrigerator top could work... try that... i left the record like 12 hours... from 8 am to 8 pm... from 11 am to 3 am... the sunlight here its very strong... i put it directly to the sunlight but i think it depends of the thickness of tha glass... since this one was of 24mm of thickness the sunlight its not directly on the record.. becouse directly to the record could melt the grooves i think.... well.. that was like an experiment ... now im doing another with a very very Warped record..

Ill let u know any ideas that i get...
