I don't think the issue is so much with the music itself, rather a lot of the illegal and often dangerous activities that tend to accompany the parties where trance music gets played.
Or parties and events where rock music gets played, jazz music gets played, country music gets played...
The Grateful Dead and their followings never had to endure the harsh criticisms (or legal precedents) in the way that electronica and it's fans do. Was their music any better in regards to drug use/abuse among it's listeners? Hardly.

I absolutely agree with you here. Maybe it's because there have been a lot more deaths/accidents reported from raves, though I'm no expert on raves as I made pretty clear.
As for turning to musicians or hollywood for political issues--yeah I agree that nobody in their right mind should turn to them for politics--but it was you who firts drew politics and trance music into the same sentence making it an issue. Music appeals to my artistic/emotional side, certainly a far cry from my political/philosophical side.

Who in the world DOES get their political information from music or hollywood?
Me. I watched Tears of the Sun and now whenever i think of US foreign policy i get this warm fuzzy feeling (or maybe it's when i think of Bruce?)
And another reason why:

Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens.

Wait, so now my political and personal philosophies are directly related to the music I listen to? I suppose I should be off on the farm listening to Willie Nelson with my dick in the backside of some sheep, as I rush to make it to the latest baptist revival session at my local extreme right wing church? If you get your political views from the musicians and DJ's that you listen to, you're probably not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Who's the one who's being narrow minded?
Willie is a leftie. What self-respecting hippie would be caught voting for "the man?"
I'm from his home town, and he's a local legend here. In fact I had a hippie friend (an actual real old school hippie) who was friends with him, but he died unfortunately.
You can't even make a blanket statement like that and say that all neo cons or conservatives are trying to ruin our scene, and all lefties are fighting for it.
Joe "Cock" Biden, a democrat, authored the Rave Act if you will remember. Luckilly Mr. Leahy retracted his support, and I have great respect for that man.
