Alright Martijn, let me give this a shot since you haven't been very lucky with answers yet.
The magical thing about Trance is that it's universal. Ok that sounds cheap but think about it. There aren't too many trance songs with lyrics (generally) but those that do have lyrics, the words can be applied to anyone, especially yourself. Hip-Hop, Alternative, Rock, etc, all the lyrics in those are usually directed to a narrower audience, you don't see 40 year old white dudes singing to "Money, Cash, Hoes," but that's because songs like those are not meant for everyone. Trance on the other hand is amazing because with every song, you take a personal trip because it's easier to apply the feeling of the music to yourself, since it's either instrumental or with universal lyrics.
The 2nd thing that makes trance incredible is that it is so varied and different. Take the following 3 songs for example:
Orion - See Me Here (Full Vocal Promo): Listening to this song is extremely relaxing and opens up your mind a bit and has you think about shit.
Blank & Jones - DJ Culture : This side of Trance is the club side. Damn, there is no other type of music that just makes you want to dance like this. These are floorstormers.
Scot Project - Overdrive: Then you have your hard as nails trance and darker trance, which you usually listen to when you're in one of those moods, and these songs just get you pumped up for anything!
My point is that you can listen to Trance whenever you want since there are songs that suit every need. But again, it's not a matter of what music is better than another type of music, it all depends on the person. You can give your buddies your reasons for listening to Trance and they might say "hmm.. sounds interesting, let me listen" or they might neglect it completely. My personal reason for falling in love with trance is that I love to DANCE to it, it's so cutting edge and fast paced! Another reason is because I've never really got goosebumps and chills with music until listening to Trance, because again, what I said before, you apply the feeling of the songs to yourself... hehe, shit, I don't even think I understand all the garbage I wrote! Like always, that's my opinion...
