I don't think it will deteriote, but rather evolve.

Fine, for EDM and hip hop dj's its part of the culture, but do you really think anyone else will use vinyl when there is something out there that will do a better job while costing less??

If you use only CD's, its so easy to cheat. You can just hit the automatch button and you're ready to go. There's so much more skill involved in spinning vinyl. So sure while it is cheaper to pire CD's, can you put a price on a lifestyle and an entire subculture?

i dont want to watch some guy clicking around on a computer... selecting mp3's at a club... i guess this will be just like pop music evolved... there will be composers and there will be performers... in the early stages of music people crossover(like tiesto) but eventually it wont be like that anymore. you will either do some crazy dances while u perform(dj) or u will be a hermit in ur studio : /

wow, yeah, spinning w/ mp3 players is scary too. Apple did a promotion for it already. A big name DJ did the show, I forget who. And it is becoming quite popular for Ipod "Programmers" to "battle" in England at events called "NoWax". Programmers "spin" three songs a piece and get audience reaction.

Yeah man, most CD decks have pretty accurate BPM counters in them. This allows you to press the Beat Sync, or Automatch, or "Magic Button" that automatically beatmatches for you, wheres the skill in that? Here check it out...

Yes, but most don't really work well and most all CD DJ's spin like they would on vinyl, without some kind of digital aid.

For someone to say there's an automatch feature really has no idea of the equipment a lot of clubs use. Most cd turntables in clubs/events (CDJ1000s and the new Denon tables) do NOT have any such feature. If any dj actually uses a cd turntable with such a feature, they obviously are not a dj.

I use both cd and vinyl while spinning, and although it is easier to beatmatch with cds (especially with CDJ1000s) it still takes skill to do so, let alone understanding when to throw the incoming song in and the other little things that you need to know about transitioning.

While the vinyl vs. cd argument will always go round and round, all you have to do is look at djs like pvd who use final scratch instead of vinyl and/or cd. Vinyl will be replaced as it is inevitable...it just makes more sense to have thousands of songs on a laptop rather than carrying around thousands of vinyl with you to every gig. It sucks even more if you lose those vinyl due to airline incompetence and have to use someone else's music to do your gig.

That is true, but you never know when someone is cheating. Thats another topic though.
