lol put the kettle on and grab a book, haha look out here it comes
ok firstly i have to say a couple of things, sorry paulie but the apreciation for future entertainment is a bit lacking at the moment....
paul and i got to the train station only to be confronted by a bunch of n00bs who had no idea about the ticket machine, it took them 10 mins to get 3 fucking tickets out of it, its not that fucking hard people!
at least it killed some of the time we had to wait for the train though hehe.
we were both buzzing on the platform waiting haha man we were so pumped!
i was running a bit late getting to pauls so we actually missed steve's set and got in around 10:30. faced with the metal detectors on getting in i took my phone and keys and wallet out and placed my texta for autographs in my shirt pocket, im about to walk in and the lady goes "sorry im going to have to take your pen". im like wtf, "why?", she goes "sorry but we've had problems with graffiti". WTF??? "i just want to get a couple of autographs..."
"sorry i have to take it"
FFS!!! GRAFFITI?????? yeah sure when im bored and i dont feel like dancing im gonna run around fucking tagging the tennis centre, wtf is that all about, stupid bitch. i just fucking bought the thing too before i left lol, my hard earned $3.05 in the bin before my very eyes.
then we got in, found steve and chris and lol steve was not happy at all hahaha. because they closed down the hard kandy room some of the set times and djs were changed around and steve had to play with this hard kandy cheesemonger.
steve made sure the set wasnt totally lost by playing 'maati lamamen (sp?) - flakes' and my main man 'j00f - tour de trance', gutted i missed this, while the other guy played hard crap and breaks and had a shitty attempt at scratching or something. while i wasnt actually there im sure it was how steve described
so we just sat outside chatting away until we decided to go in and catch a bit of mark james, who was embracing and surrounding the crowd as the rush came next up was 'for an angel', he also played a remix of 'born slippy', and i think he played a remix of 'binary finary - 1998', im pretty sure i heard someone play it and the other djs were shit ****s so it must have been him
as midnight approached the countdown clock was displayed on and off, don't think it was working right because at one point mr james was saying how we can see the countdown coming but the clock wasn't actually on the screen, he was just standing there with the mic looking at it waiting hehe.
and so then came the moment, midnight, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!! and hugs were exchanged to the sound of 'rank one - breathing (breaks dub)'. hhmmm, not too bad, better than 'dooms night' at least, but i would preferred something with a bit more energy i think. ah well never mind
master kaos vs ben something were next, and while i wasn't that into the music master kaos was at least technically doing a great job. good use of the mixer i thought, some nice scratching and effects. i think that improves a set a lot if you aren't really into the music, because it gives something extra (pfft i dont even know what im talking about lol). they did play a few good tracks, one of them i liked was this cheesy song that sampled the old fighting game 'street fighter 2'. haha it was classic, every so often you would hear "hadouken!" and "sonic boom!". it was great when he scratched as well lol, had-had-had-haddd-hadouken!! haha i loved it anyway
jason midro was next to attack my ears, argh what a fucking joke. i think at that point paul and i decided to take a walk and check out roger sanchez, all for about 10 mins hehe, but he seemed pretty good. he was playing that song with the chick going 'it seems i can't deny..." i dunno the rest of the words also his last track was 'coldplay - clocks' and that went off after wandering for a while we went back in as stipsy had arrived, and there was heckling to be done. so we stood at the front yelling shit at midro every chance we got, watching him do his stupid little dances and hand waves, seriously he looked like he was on sesame street or play school or something.
and the crap he was playing! argh i couldnt believe it. sorry for the fans of his music but i thought it was just shit, i mean master kaos and ben whatever were playing hard, but it was good hard, this was just crap i thought. his one saving grace, well not really saving grace but a good track anyway, was 'dj misjah & dj tim - access'. its on cd2 of 'for your ears only' by j00f from 2000, so its good he played that pretty early, and went downhill from there. man next time i see him im gonna take a packet of kraft singles or something and chuck them at him. or find one of those big cheese hats like they wear at green bay home games in nfl
and the worst part was we got more midro than we wanted, and paid for! tiesto was delayed by nearly 30 mins i think, and we were getting restless by that stage lol. but then the man came on and....
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fuck it was fucking brilliant!!!!!
i actually had tears when he started, haha i couldnt believe how excited i was!!!!
man it was soooooooooooo good!!!! i didn't know that many tracks, but they were all class!!! it was amazing!!! it was the vibe, it was mabo, it was great!!! everyone was loving it!!!! there were tiesto t-shirts and singlets everywhere, there were a few holland soccer tops too, and a group of people had this huge banner with something written in dutch so i had no idea what it was but it was mad anyway
i havent heard the innercity set but neil seriously go watch him, it was great stuff!!! after a while i managed to get into the vip area, and while i had a pass i think it wasnt actually vip-enough for where i wanted to go so after waiting a while and the security bitch yelling at everyone i managed to get steve to come over and bullshit to the guy to let me in!! thanks buddy!!!!!!!!!!
man it was brilliant!!! standing on the stage in this little area like 2 metres away from him, with this mad view of the packed out tennis centre, it was definitely the best 'festival/dance music event' night of the year for me!! and the crowd!! as soon as you could hear 'andain - beautiful things' come in the place erupted!!! there was a period i think where he played a stack of his older stuff, im assuming he played 'sparkles' because when this track came on a group of people in the crowd lit up sparklers!!! it was classic!!! when 'born slippy' came on about 20 people near the front held up "TUNE!" signs!!! and when 'silence' came in the whole fucking place was going spastic, 10,000 people or however many there were singing the words!!! what an experience!!!
i myself went spastic to 're:locate - waterfall', i fucking love this tune, but i wasn't in a good position sound-wise when it was on so it could have been better. when i heard the distinct sounds of 'lethal industry' coming on i exploded, and paulie too!! and fuck you stipsy with your "overrated cheese" haha i love it! didn't get quite the same crowd response as other tracks but that didn't matter. i was also gutted that 'flight 643' wasn't played, i guess all the time watching dutch dimensions and practising the tiesto dance went to waste hehehehe
'obsession' went off too, i think thats what hybrid junkie was reffering to with the unknown marco v track. and the tiesto remix of 'barber's adagio for strings' wasn't too bad either, first time i heard it. 'theme from norjfell' was the encore track, and it was a shame he finished early. he was advertised as playing 4+ hours and just made it past 3 so we were a little dissapointed. but it was just about the fucking best 3 hours of dance music i've heard!!!!!!
i got my poster signed too like abs but mine wasn't in as good condition it seems hehe and i almost missed out. lol i couldnt believe it i was practically chasing after him when they left yelling "tijs!! tijs!!", then i thought to myself "i'll head them off at the pass" so ran back to where the tunnel thing came back around and dangled myself over the barrier waving my poster and he came over and i thought shit i don't have a pen and im like paranoid yelling "pen! pen! has anyone got a pen!!???!!" but tiesto had one in his pocket and signed the poster and i was going "omgomgthankyousomuchomg"!! far out i couldn't believe it!! how does this one man make so many people go nuts like this??!?! (no i wasn't the only one )
so yeah umm i think thats it, it was a fucking great set, spewing i missed steve and nubreed, and spewing tiesto didn't play as long as we wanted but it was fucking great and how anyone can not have enjoyed that set i don't know. the tunes were choice, the mixing was great, for all you bandwagon jumpers who whinge about the mixing it was perfect, only 1 aborted trainwreck in the whole set, so there! it was a fucking great night and i was talkin to a friend on the phone before who was at summerdayze and i was buzzing and jumping around the house telling her how good it was hehe. then i decided to chuck on 'venus' and 'silence' and ahhh the memories, i was jumping around again
so yeah it was such a great night, what a man this person is, great tunes, great atmosphere, just a great set, and for all the haters, FECK OFF!!!
i think thats about all
ps
is this my longest review yet? lol sorry
