You think every talented artists started off making pro quality tunes. It's like everything else in life, you gotta work hard and devote alot of time and energy to succeed. I laugh when I listen to my first tunes, and in 1 year i'll listen to my tunes now, and laugh. With every new song, every new technique learned, the music will improve. There is so much great info on this forum and many other productions forums it sometimes hard to keep up. Reading is the key, and then applying what you've read to your music. There are many variables to consider. The equipment you use (hardware /software/soundcard/monitors/etc...), time allocated to music production, talent (yes, some people are just more musically gifted than others), and sometimes just plain old luck. To give you an example. Me and a tranceaddict friend of mine, started producing at the same time. I was way more serious about producing and while he was chating away on yahoo messenger talking to chicks, i was in production forums and tutorial sites reading up on stuff. A year later I got signed, and he's still learning how to use the piano roll. You gotta take it seriously like as if you were in school. Print out tutorials, read up on what compression and eq is, and how they work. grab a pencil and start writing down notes. Anything useful, write it down and apply it to your tunes. Go on artists webpages and ask the big guys questions, dont be shy, if they don't reply then fine, if they do then great. If you don't understand something ask. Experiment and you'll find yourself discovering new things on a daily basis. And do not compare yourself to anyone else. If every artist did that there would be no progress. Instead of being upset cause Bren-f makes better tunes than you, find out why and fix it, or just ask. Trance production isn't always fun. Sure it's fun jamming on a synth and coming up with that wicked melody, but putting it together in a mix takes alot of work and time. Some artists take months to make a tune. If your stuck and just can't get going, close the pc. Come back when your fresh and ready to compose. Don't give up. good luck

Yeah at one point I was getting all depressed, thinking the same thing, and 'will i ever ever ever get signed' ?... but then I realized that even if my tracks never get anywhere, never get signed, never anything but just for me - I'll still be happy and I'll still always want to make them.
The feeling of DJing a small party, where everyone is dancing because of YOU, throwing on one of your tracks, telling the few new friends you just made, "hey i made this one on my computer", and then watching everyone KEEP dancing to it, is the best best best feeling IMHO.

I sometimes ask myself the same thing. I have very little creativity, musical or otherwise. Half of the time I just use the randomizer in fruity loops to help me find a good drum sequence. I very rarely stray from the presets in software synths.
But every once in a while I will come up with something cool on my own, and that makes it all worth it. It's better than sitting around twiddling my thumbs, waiting for new releases to come out.
Don't assume that there are so many producers who are better than you. The ability to create music (or movies, books, anything) that a large number of people will like is still a pretty rare asset. And I bet there are probably a ton of good songs out there derived from "lucky-found" melodies or rhythms.
A good song made from presets, crappy eq settings, and lucky found melodies can still sound better than a poor song that was completely original, mastered by professionals, etc. The bottom line is, if you like producing, keep doing it, and none of that other stuff matters. It will probably get easier as you learn more.

Well if your clueless after reading all those tutorials then maybe this just isn't your thing. I have problems myself figuring out some tutorials, but I just keep trying and trying and eventually I get it. I don't know you, but making good trance isn't as easy as it seems. Maybe you give up easily, and that's your problem. Or maybe your just to hard on yourself. Do you have any tunes I can listen too? Maybe I can give you some pointers.
