Honestly everyone who knows me knows that my favourtie CDJ's are the American DJ Pro series (Cameron, Liquid M e.t.c.).


The Pro 3's are awesome CDJ's I have played out on them many many times and I highly recommend them. Even if you don't buy mine they are still a great CD player. By the way they are the bigger brother (feature wise) of the American DJ Pro CD player that lightsounds are selling.


Also under NO circumstance by Numarks I have had numerous pieces of Numark gear go up in smoke on me (literally).

I have been a long running member of www.clubdjzone.com and www.djzone.com do a search through the equipment boards on these sites for user feedback on the equipment.

Finally if you'd like to have a chat about specific CD players i.e. what features some have that others don't. What can be a pain to use and what can be easy to use pm me and we can have a chat?

If the feel is totally different you're going to be rooted playing on other CDJ's [I haven't seen a club in sydney that has a periment CDJ that's NOT a Pioneer] aren't you? And you can't exactly take your own dex 2 every club you play at....

Ive tried a few CDJ's and obviously I love my own Pioneer CDJ1000 (although I really want 2 of them but can't afford to).
If I didn't have this I would go for a CDJ800
IMO I didn't like the AA's or a few others I tried.

I think it's a good idea to go with the industry standard if you are planning to get into club DJing. If not then it is really up to what you like.

Basically, the ones I'd check out if you're headed toward the mid-to-high range decks are

Pioneer CDJ-1000
Pioneer CDJ-800
Denon 5000
Denon 3000

If you're after something that's portable, Pioneer CMX-3000.

With effects, really, it's so much nicer to have them in the mixer, or even better a seperate unit.

We actually have at the moment:

1xPioneer CDJ-1000Mk1
2xTechnics 1210Mk3d
1xPioneer DJM-600
1xPioneer EFX-500

As a setup, it's really, really nice to play on, and it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect in the majority of clubs these days.

Go to lightsounds, muck with all of them or even come around here some time to muck with with the above

Definately under NO CIRCUMSTANCES buy before you've at least tried all the above to see what /you/ prefer.

Nice setup man I'll be @ that setup very soon (- the EFX 500; just gave it back....borrowed one for about 3-4 months)

REALLY good advice! Defo try before you buy Take a cd and record along and have a lil play in the shop...(or maybe 2cd's....basically mix in the shop and get the feel of it).

Not trying to take anything away from Joshva's setup, I just prefer, as do many people to use the industry standard, so there's no learning curve when you're in a club.

Hi

They are extremely similar to the pioneers in button placement and functionality even the colour/backlight of the buttons. The jog dial is smaller which means you have to turn it a bit more than you would with the pioneers. I prefer this though as if i want more acurate i will turn slow or if i want a big adjustment turn faster. Whereas on the pioneers a small adjustment you nudge the wheel and for a big adjustment turn (similar to on a Turntable). What the AMDJ CDJs do have that is better than the pioneers is the cueing and setting of cue points. On the pioneers you normally have to press the cue button to save to the cue point. On the AMDJ's you don't your previous scannings are automatically saved to the cue point. It means you don't have to find a point then think ok i must remember to save this to cue now. If you want to set different cue points on the AMDJ you can use one of the 6 jump points (not 3 on the pioneers). Other things in favour of the AMDJs are they are much much smaller and more portable than the Pioneer CDJ1000 or CDJ 800 or Dennon S5000/S3000. By the way i also own a Pioneer CMX 3000 in case your wondering.

And yes at Icebox we have bought my AMDJ CD players to replace there Pioneer CDJ 100s

All in all my recomendation is as follows:

1) If you want something portable, lightweight, fairly cheap that is easy to use and has plenty of features go the AMDJ Single CD players

2) If you want a really robust club install CD player or a scratching CD player go either Pioneer CDJ 1000/Pioneer CDJ 800

3) If you are pressed for room (like i am) go for the Pioneer CMX 3000


By the way the reason i haven't suggested using Dennons are because Dennons suffer from the problems dj Way has mentioned. Dennons work quite differently to the Pioneers and AMDJ cd players.

I just got a pair of 1000mk2's but i spent a year and a bit learning on cdj100's and found them excellent.

Easy to use and a good stepping stone to 1000's. They do everything you would need of a basic cdj and are well made and never had a problem with them. They play cdr's and i think are the best beginner cdj. Also it seems most clubs now have 1000's and if you play on a 100 it's not that diffrent in how ot works basically. (At least i haven't had too many problems learning 1000's)

PIONEER DMP555 DIGITAL TURNTABLE

Now this looks to be pretty much a CDJ-1000 put not so big, i would be considering one of these if you didnt have space.

THey are priced around $1400/1500 which is very similar to the ADJ that josh likes.

THey are hard to find, but i think Virgin megastore has them last time i checked.

dmp555 is very expensive for the features you get. unless you really really need multimdeia playback, it's not worth it. And it scratches like the cmx, not the cdj's.
