I got a pair of these like 1 month ago and it has been easily the most exciting equipment addition since I bought my first DJ set-up 8 years ago.

I have decided to switch permanently to the CDJs because I spin all kinds of music and I will be able to store all my 12"s digitally in about 1/1000 the amount of space (i.e. DVDs of wav files vs. crates of 12"s). I am now in the process of converting all my vinyl to digital files which will probably take me about 200 years, but whatever.

In the USA, you absolutely should not have to pay more than $650 for a CDJ-800 (before $100) rebate. I found mine for $550, so call around, but just make sure you are buying from an authorized dealer so that you can get the $100 rebate.

CDJ 800 vs. 1000

Loads of misinformation regarding the differences between these models. As posted earlier, do yourself a favor and do some homework. Go to Pioneer's website. Play the interactive demos. Look at the feeature comparison chart.

For me, the CDJ1000 or even the DMP555 would be a much better unit than the 800. Why? SD card storage. The ability to store loops & cue points gives you lots of options in mixing into and out of your tracks - not to mention using the CD as a sampler (with the hot start cue points). Yes, the 800 will store a limited amount of cue points in its onboard memory.

The 1000 can be found for very attractive prices, as can the DMP555.

CDJ1000 has he wave pattern of your track in the display, kinda like looking @ the grooves in yer 12" ...

other functions are the same, except the 1000 uses some more expensive and 'fancy' stuff to make the design look better.

so, CDJ1000 has the display, CDJ800 has the beat loops. pay an extra 200€ (about £140?) for the wave pattern ?? i don't think so ...

erm, if im not mistaken, isnt the looping on btoh units, essentially the same, except on the 1000 it has some extra features. if i remember correctly what i saw on the pioneer site, you can do everything you did on the 800 with the 1000.

when u claim money back, usually a tax rebate in the uk for businesses, eg. if djing was your major income, you could claim the vat back off your purchases of kit + tuens

Andski, in this case, with the CD decks, the rebate is like a special offer that you get if you buy a CDJ800. For each deck you buy, you can get a 100 dollar check in the mail, or an HDJ1000 headphone from Pioneer. Rebate = Offer in this scenario.

No, I was playing with both today...and the looping is very different between them.

The 800 has "oh shit!" buttons - that basically seamlessly loop for you...very very nice. And it has the beat cutter.

The 1000 has more fine tuning of the loops, but not the oh shit buttons or the beat cutter.

Personally I'd prefer the looping of the 800s.
