Endre

Endre is Swedish producer, Alex Sjöström. A great example to any aspiring producer out there, at just 17 years of age Alex has risen from bedroom musician to one of dance music's emerging new talents.

Alex hails from a musical family (his father was a DJ, his mother a singer) and draws his influences from a broad range of genres, including House, Drum'N'Bass, Techno, Ambient, Breakbeat, Hip Hop, Classics, Pop, Rock and Trance. This eclectic taste is reflected in his own music-making and a unique style that combines laidback melodies with atmospheric production ideas, to build dancefloor tension and create impact.

Endre's first offering, 'Kallocain', is an epic and melodic affair with a Van Dyk groove and some rather lovely strings. Factor in a remix from an in-form Robert Nickson and you're left with yet another killer Anjuna 12".

As a point of interest, Kallocain is named after the classic Swedish novel which envisions a future of drab terror. Seen through the eyes of idealistic scientist Leo Kall, the book's depiction of a totalitarian world state is a montage of what novelist Karin Boye had seen or sensed in 1930s Russia and Germany. Its central idea grew from the rumours of truth drugs that ensured the subservience of every citizen to the state. Who said politics and music don't mix!? Kallocain will be released in March 2004

making music tracks is definily worth 200k plus if your good. obviously i dont mean 200k instanly. i mean say i got signed i would expect to recieve at lest 65k a year if i was signed to a record label? dont you think? otherwise its not worth it , even if you really like to do it like me. making music tracks is way harder then being a teacher or a cop and they still get a little less than 65k a year.

i guess im just not understanding how the record industry works. can someone summerize it for me?

when you get signed do you get a signing bonus? exactly how is it that you get paid? is it like you get 10,000 for every track you make and your record company owns all the rights to it? and the more you sell the more commision you get off of it?

Yes maybe when you reach a status when your in demand most likely. It's all royalties, if you make a shit song, then don't expect to make alot of money since no-one will buy it. In this industry the cash is most definetly not a guaranteed factor. It's really how much determination and passion you put into a song then your money flow will be changed.

You think these are bad, think back at Matt Dareys days, when he signed Li Kwan - Point Zero, the record company told him he couldn't use the himself in the credit and in the end he didn't get even one cent in royalties for that song, yet he continued on making quality music despite the setback. Even the Lost Tribe Distant Voices EP, he lost all the money when HOOJ went down...yet he continued. I don't think his main importance is money but the passion of trance.

Seriously don't look at this industry as being a gold-mine just to be attacked.

Also if you have shit all passion about trance and really are looking for at it as "$$$", then make commerical music.

you need to becoem a popstar if you want that sort of money.

the money is in the DJing aswell of course. most prodcuers have a full time job aswell remember, wether it be DJing at the big clubs or a regular job. look at how mint ralphie-b is at prodcuing. top notch stuff on top notch labels, yet he's in I.T. as a fulltiem job, doing producing on evening and weekends. EDM is a small minority of the music world. even tiesto wont make ALOT from his productions, highest hes got in the uk was no.22 with urban train, his cash coems from DJing and royalties. make commercial trance like dj sammy, and your starting to get more money, plus the royalties increase etc etc.

err not quite. darey made the distant voices ep in 96 (rleased in 97) and hooj went down 2003. he got his 6 years royalties + the release of gamemaster in 99 and the money from his first track on hooj - space baby - free your mind and i can tell you the royalties from gamemaster 99 were fuckin massive. he continues to make the royalties too, as hooj is still selling all its existing stock.

No, ok say they only pay you 10% of the total amount earned on a song (this figure is true, dunno if it applies to trance)

Say a vinyl is 10 dollars and your only getting 10% which means you only get 1 dollar for each vinyl SOLD not PRESSED

that cant be right mate, you must of missheard. matt hasnt been with hooj since 1999, hooj went down 2003.

matt has been with incentive / liquid asset for the past few years. he cant of lost any of his money, because the distant voices ep has now sold out, and gamemaster 99 is still selling.
