I remember walking in one club and seeing about 15 people in a line sitting on the ground rubbing each others back while taking hits from a whip cream cannister. Then I remember walking over to another club after leaving that one and seeing 3 chicks sitting in VIP all layed out in a K hole, and this was a hip/hop club. Seriously, it was bad. There was a time where Vicks products were rare in Gainesville. Something had to be done.

aah yes i remember a cuddle puddle that spanned the entire roof of simons... everyone was drooling/rolling their asses off... it was crazy.. those were the days, but it was out of control.. now gville is just stuck in the backlash from it....
craig didnt you come to one of greg and i's house parties....

Cynthia-

Oh, if there was a house party I always made an appearance. I'm pretty sure I did. Me, Jorge and Rinaldo used to do Wed nights @ Vibe. It was about the same time Dave Preston started his Friday Night house parties. In any case, its good to see some house luvers on TA.

BTW, "Cuddle Puddle"....niiiiiice! Thats a good way to put it.

rofl...great summery of the downfall of Gainesville, Craig!

Put every raver and DJ and X pill in the world in one little town and you have what we had...which I'm sure was fun, but like you said, it got out of control. Unfortunatly I came into the picture about the time they started cracking down on shit hard.

Cynthia, eNation is nicknamed eDrama by most(last one called it that was Steve this past weekend, lol) but lately (despite some elitist bastards) there are people who are actually trying to bring a scene back. We've gotten up to two whole EDM nights a week now!

Christ I need out of this place.

Hardware tonight?

I read your first and second posts but i just kind of skimmed the rest of the posts.

My question to you about why it wont work is.. do you need permits or something to host an event like this. Yeah it can be spur of the moment and "underground" then suddenly when (or if) the cops bust in and demand ordinance papers... whoops!

but also what about the people that actually come? You're not required to feed or quench thier thirst are you? I mean not alcohol-wise but at least places where they can get water. I think that all events must have a place for water. And that can get expensive.

Speaking of the people that come, lets hope that nothing dangerous happens to anyone, coz if it does you could be slapped with a lawsuit.Im not saying itll happen, but this day and age anything is possible. You have to check to see if you need to file any papers exempting you from any extenuating factors.

One last thing.. do you need a staff? sometimes events need a little security to keep things under control..you dont want something to happen and breakinto a huge riot. You dont have to go out and spend a fortune on Security guards..sometime Police officers off-duty will help out.

These are some things i was thinking about. If you can get past all these stipulations then go for it!

I'm planning on looking into this as well. Hopefully I'll be able to find a place where cops won't bust in, as I'm forseeing my getting ordinance papers and the cops seeing them and going ...ALL CARS HERE!

My thought was kegs and hunch punch and Jello shots, like any other party. Yeah, this is some expense, but no more than a well planned house party. And this can be included in the price of the ticket! As for water, damned if I'm gonna charge for water, I hate that more than anything. I'll be looking for something close to running water so that we can have coolers on ice and not have that as an issue!

This is always a possibility at a party, but I've never heard of people throwing a house party filing papers and such. There's the possiblity of harm, or OD...but thats one of those things that you can't really control, just hope people will be responsible and be prepared to take control if they are not!

Last thing I want is police officers, on or off duty. I have quite a few really large friends who would be more than wiling to get in free and stand by making sure goes off well. I hope so anyway, or maybe just the old fashioned method of security...we'll see...

It's illegal for a reason, ya know? There are some risks involved with something like this. I know that. I'm guessing those risks are the reason it hasn't been done lately around here.

Thanks so much for the thoughts though! They have given me some more things to consider!

I think the gameday crowds were equally responisible as the clubbers were. Most of the fights were the same day as Tennessee/FSU home games.

In terms of a party, you won't have any luck in incorporated Gainesville. Beyond I-75 and past williston rd, you are out of GPD juristiction. Ideally, you want to have some friends with a lake house out in hawthorne. A lot of the houses there are so isolated that you could do anything and not bother anyone.

heh...funny you should mention that...my family just completed our lake house in Hawthorne! Unfortunatly, even though it's on a private lake, it's net very isolated. Yes, I will be throwing parties out there, probally even with a couyple DJs, but it couldn't handle anything this size.

I was wondering exactly what were the GPD boundries. I know I75 is not one of them cus even way out in Joesville we've had problems with GPD. I was thinking if I could find an abandoned warehouse in one of the outlying towns it would be perfect. Even if it is in a business district, it's not like there would be workers from 10PM Saturday to 10AM Sunday!

Anyone actually know the boundries of the various units of law enforcement around here? I mean, ASO would be able to shut us down if we set up just outside of the GPD zone, cus they work really well together nowadays. And I bet those Hawthorne Police are just Craaazy! rofl...

As far as the lake house goes, I'll have a party out there when it gets warm with a DJ set up on the back porch and one on the floating dock if I can figure out the logistics behind it!

okay, listen if you want to have a party like that you have to do it in a house, not in an apartment. A brick house is better since it seems to keep most of the noise enclosed. The house I lived in was right next to campus, literally across from Beaty Towers. My buddy and I were able to throw a sick ass party there. Trust me, I was highly skeptical at first but it turned out to be pretty cool. And yes you will have people doin all kinds of shit there, wether you think they are there for the music or not. What worked out for us is that we bought two kegs and people came to drink at first, then the real party started. Plus my friend knew the right people, including the DJs, so the word spread pretty well. No cops the whole night. It is still the best party I have been to in Gainesville, and luckily got to host. Unfortunately, our next party kinda sucked. Apparently we were not able to fall upon the luck of the previous one.
But anyways, the point is if you want to have your party just do it up right. Make sure your neighbors are cool with it and even better make sure they dont hear it at all. Plus, if you want if you want a lot of people you got to have the right incentives. Anyways, good luck and keep us informed on the next one.
DK

Nono, you seem to be missing something, lol.

The party at the apt was gonna happen either way, I just made it a tad more musical...it will happen again in about 3 months...hopefully giving us time to figure out how to keep the cops away. (Maybe a new doughnut shop opened across the street will distract them before they get to us!! )

But the party I'm planning on having at some point isn't gonna be in a house cus there is no way a house could handle it. Either a club, warehouse, or feild...and a club is so fucking out, and a feild would be cool but require too much artificial power. Looking like a warehouse somewheres. Anyway, I'll let the TAs know whats up when I figure it out. I'mma have a room for Prog/Trance/Breaks, mos def!

And Imma keep this thread bumped and keep this discussion going till the end of this month, cus I'm getting some good comments and things. Begining of Feb Imma let it die and shit will go underground though, I know cops are all hudled around this thread somewhere waiting for a location, lol.
