harmonic mixing? hmm.. if i had to define it, i'd put it like this.. if 2 rekkids are in the bpm range, any 2 rekkids can be mixed together at any point during each of the 2 tracks, however, it is not recommended :) mixing should be about timing and track selection.. you technically can mix during a buildup, but why? it sounds horrible and kills the effect.

The 2 rekkids being mixed should be 'in harmony', they should sound good when played at the same time and transitioned

eg: one track has vocals, and while you're mixing, the other track has vocals.. vocals over vocals = bad

eg2: one noisey track being mixed into a chillin progressive track.. although they are around the same bpm, the mix is next to impossible because the transition from a noisey Mauro Picotto style rekkid to something like a Sandra Collins progressive mix is just too large of a transition

sort of.. but harmonic mixing is much more than making sure the records are compatibile. And harmonic mixing has nothing to do with how much is going on in the songs, it is only concerned with the key of the songs.

Harmonic mixing is making sure the keys of the tunes go together harmonically, so the melodies sound good on top of each other.

I may not have any formal music training, everything i know i learned on my own through years of DJing, so the way i describe things may not always be as clear as i would like them to be

I think the best way for a DJ to read and communicate with the crowd is through their music and mixing. I'd much rather go see a guy like Sasha who spends his booth time creatign seemless mixes, than a goofy guy like Tiesto who spends most of his time waving his skinny ass arms and obviously less time on his mixes. Not saying crowd acknowlegdement isn't importatant...some of my best nights out have been with Carl Cox, becuase his energy is infectuous. IDK, I think a guy like PVD can pull off not dancing in the booth, because I personally think the music he plays, and the way he plays it is the best in the world. I don't need him making God poses to make my night better.
