TO be honest with you, the production industry doesn't quite trust the Mackie name for professional mixing... Mackie's still poised under a pro-sumer level. The Behringer Eurodesks, Allen&Heath mixers (not the DJ mixers), Mitsubishi, Amek, Solid-State-Logic, Neve, and various other companies make pro and pro-sumer level mixing consoles.
Keep in mind, you only need a multi-channel inline mixing console when you're recording live preformance, or mixing down many sources to stereo, 5.1, 7.1, and various other multi-track recording devices.
For what you're doing, a mixing console simply isn't feasible, or within your price range for another 20 years, unless you're loaded with cash.... although a Mackie or Behringer mixer of no more than 16 tracks would be somewhat affordable.
Try to research the production needs in your studio. Most of the time it's all about getting synths, and midi controllers, and having your computer record everything, and then command your synths thru midi.
If you figure out that you want a mixing application, my best suggestion and what many would suggest, it another PC dedicated into a Pro-Tools rig. The Digi-rack models or maybe even the HD systems would do just fine. and Since it's mostly software with hardware counter-parts, it's much cheaper than an actual hardware stand-alone mixing console, which I doubt you have the space for anyways.
