Yeah the money is a point but 2 years from now you have to upgrade your Pc too- and that cost a hella lot more than a new console evry 4-5 years. I like games for both formats, but for different reasons. The cosole industry DWARFS the PC industry too. But more popular dosen't always mean better.

you can get a PS2 side-winger for the PC it doesn't really matter if its a PC or PS2, its just your own personal preference. upgrading is a bitch, because you can never catch up with the technology, especially since AMD came out with the 64-bit cpu's. but until they actually are beign bought in huge quantities by people and they make all the programs/games in 64bit mode, its gonna be around 3-4 years or more!

Yeah I know there's emulators for just about everything if you look hard enough. I'm as much a gamer as a collector though. I like having first editons of my favorite books. I like having the limited editon CD's with bonus stuff. Guess that goes for all my media collecting- if I enjoy the movie - cd - game I want the REAL game, and case with it. It's a bit of respect for the artist who created it. And I download MP3's like everyone. It helps me find a lot of DJ's / bands I wouldn't have other wise known about. But I will buy their CD if I enjoy it.

(Console vs. PC)Some people can play games sittng on a chair, 2 feet from their computer monitor. I am not one of them. Give me my couch and home theatre (HDTV,6.1 surround, etc.) any day over that.

Consoles and PCs are very different markets... Japan never really took to the PC market, and so a lot of their games are exclusive to consoles... I'm a fan of Japanese console RPGs and shooters, 2 genres that you don't find at all on PCs... There are definite advantages to PC, but more often than not, gaming at my PC is usually emulation or me playing novice games other people made with RPG Maker 2000.

PCs are good for:
First Person Shooters (no matter what you say, these are horrible on console)
Real Time Strategy (ditto)
Strategy/Simulation i.e. The Sims
American RPGs i.e. Baldur's Gate, Divine Divinity
Anything with a lot of customization in it
Emulation (once you get a gamepad)

Consoles are good for:
Shooters
Action games
Platformers (Jazz Jackrabbit was fun back in the day)
Fighting Games (with the exception of One Must Fall 2097, there hasn't ever been a good one on PC, ever)
Japanese RPGs

i feel really bad about downloading games off the internet and not paying 1 cent for it. i know how hard it is to form a game, beign myself in the computer programming field, it takes a lot time and effort. for me people that create games, their genius and i really respect that i understand why games are expensive but i dont have 80 bux in my pocket everyday but then again, there is the internet and right now the net is just too powerful! some gain and some lose off the internet, thats the way it is...

Hells yeah, I remember getting those 2 games and a bunch of other shareware games back when I bought that oldskool Gravis gamepad (the one sort of shaped like the SNES controller). Epic Megagames has always been one of my favorite PC companies...

Well Metroid Prime is console only, and an FPS if a non traditional one and it mixes in the best aspects of traditional console games and is an excellent game. So as it may be different I wouldnt call it horrible in any sense of the word just because it doesnt have a keyboard and a mouse|

I have just started to get all my favourite games from the past for a few systems. I have SNES, PS2 (and PS1 obviously), N64, and a gameboy. in total I have about 64 games right now for all systems together, and growing.

This is nothing compared to what a friend of mine is undertaking. He is in the process of building up an enormous collection of games across all systems (and I mean all, even systems you may have forgotten about) and on top of it he is also playing all of them as he goes. Currently he has about 150 NES (yes NES) games and still need about another 150 more to finish that system, then he moves on to the next one and so on. He has many other games as well right now for all his other systems. Now that will be a huge bill!

Yeah, Metroid Prime is an excellent game, honestly I'm much more of a 2D fan, and hate when 2D games go 3D, but Metroid Prime blew every one of my expectations away... Though it's much different from the traditional FPSs, it's more of a "First Person Adventure".
