Sony MDR-V6s

$79.95 US at DJ-Mart.com

Seriously the best headphones for just kickin back and listening to stuff, they have the same drivers as the more expensive and well known Sony 7506's. You can find them cheap at dj-mart.com but even cheaper on eBay. They'll last you a LONG time too.

I Disagree. If DJ features dont matter, you can get equal sound for the $25 USD Sennheiser HD202, and better sound for the $35 Sennheiser HD212 Pro.

thanks for the input...im probably gonna get them from malaysia...AUS dollar gets like 3 malaysian dollars and things are priced around the same

Really, there are a lot of head-fiers in Australia, and no one seems to have been able to find any good deals in this route. Why not go to www.head-fi.org and ask? Also, what distributor do you intend to use?

You are gonna use this with a minidisc? ouch! I dont think the HD280 is -- too light on the bass with such a source... Also, since you are in Australia, Sennheiser prices are going to be pretty evil... but HD25 would work. Even though it will be hideously overpriced in Australia...

I use for listening to music Sennheisers HD500, superb quality and so comfortable (you can wear these babies for hours and hours and forget that their even on your head). Had them for 2 years now and no problems at all with them.

I would reccommend these to anybody wanting to just listen to music, they are not so good for DJ/mixing because they are open backed headphones.

Here is a pic..

The HD500's arent highly regarded at head-fi... the HD497 is known for being a better value...

Sony Eggo's! I love those things, so easy to carry around, can't break em, and they sound fine for everyday walkman use.

I originally went with the intention of buying the 497s, but I tried the 500s in the shop also and much prefered them. Your best to go try the phones for yourself and buy the ones you like.

Yeah, I tried those HD 500s, but I didn't like them at all! They sound very boomy and muddy (as in, they have little if any treble response at all whatsoever, and what little treble that they reproduce is grainy, harsh and screechy), and they cost $90 at retail - and they sound no better than a pair of lightweight Koss Sporta Pros that cost three times less than those HD 500s.
