Looking forward to Watlington Street too. How did he partner up with SAW Recordings? Is there a story behind that? |
From www.xpander.nl:
Picture this: Some time ago in an English college hall at Reading University is a twenty year old guy working hard to pass his exams. Then suddenly his cell phone rings and it's an intercontinental call from SAW Recordings, the label of the notorious Satoshi Tommiie and Hector Romero.
Yo, is this the real Nathan Fake? Says an American voice on the other side. The student replied with a yes.
It seems there is a buzz going on about some tracks you've produced but haven't officially been released, it's people like John Digweed, Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo dropping your shit! How about a proper release on SAW Nathan, or shall I call you mister Fake?
And so it happens that Nathan successfully releases an EP on SAW Recordings after his solo-debut on James Holden's imprint Border Community. And what an EP it is.
The A1 track Adamedge is a real builder with a very strong tension. On B1 Nathan becomes so called Bored Of House. On this track its clear why he debuted on Border Community, the general feel and the reversed delaying percussion has a strong resemblance of Holdens A Break In The Clouds. The C1 track Underberg has a hypnotizing female vocal line and will appeal to the more techno-orientated jocks because of its drive. D1 is Overdraft and really sounds like former UK punkers The Clash discovering CuBase. D2 Peary Land sounds to me like a country where no harm will be done, just laying in the grass with girls wearing tiny t-shirts and from time to time eating some of the fruit. This nice ambient track closes the EP in style. ' This EP will appeal to the more alternative jocks and is in my opinion quite different from the sound you would expect from SAW, nevertheless it's good thing when a label has the guts to step out of the line.
Nathan Fake is definitely my kind of guy, this bloke blends all kinds of influences into a very exciting and intriguing mix. And now let's hope he graduates, because building a track record like this with outstanding productions keeps you quite busy.
