Trancegeek: the best point and shoot camera on the market for its price is the F717 by Sony.

I've tried many cameras, even that A80 which is supposed to bbe better than the S400 and not one comes close.

The camera is a bit cumbersome if you plan on dancing with it in a club and just above the 500$USD you are planning to spend. But it makes up with image clarity with its exceptional lenses. The movie mode is excellent and can shoot for an ulmtd amount of time as long as you have space on your card!

Nothing can touch it in low light conditions in the point and shoot market.

no flash used.

flash and the shutter open for a fraction of a second

no flash, low light, shutter open for about 1 1/2 second.

no flash, shutter open for 2 seconds.

flash in a low light lounge

here's some movie clips shot with the f717.

the first one is shot in a car in the day, just to give you an idea of the quality outside of a club, its just before evening.

the second one is chris liebing @ aria, i have a regular dv camera, but I was just messing around with my f717 and I filmed... the sound is a bit harsh but thats expected with digital cameras.

The second one is donald glaude at Dagobert and the sound is bad because of the crazy volume in there.

all of these films haven't been processed and are in their original format. Imagine what you can do with them with a bit of editing.

then agian the a80 is pretty good if you know how to use it

not saying you don't know but I like to use manual shots instead of the auto cuz auto doesn't make it all the better.

auto is good sometimes when i need a quick snap and can't be too arsed to fiddle with all the controls.

other than that, manual is the way to go, especially if you know what you're doing and have lots of options.

point & shoot is really for the "point & click" type of pc people
