I cant believe this, none of you DJ's out there sample other records just to fuck with the crowd. Or begin mixing in a record you dont actually play just to fool them? Thats my favorite way to kill time between mixes.Anyone??

at this rave one time a while ago, this dj was going off and he kept sampling in Azzido da bass - Doom's night
he never actually dropped it down and played it, just kept teasing us with it... and finally, at the end of his set, we're screaming encore! and what does he do? drops down doom's night...
everyone in the place went insane!

Armand Van Helden did that effectively with Daft Punk - One More Time last year, when he was one of the few people with promo copies.

Quite often, I would use a particular song as a sort of "theme" and sort of tease with that song for a while before actually dropping it all the way in. Usually, I would spend my time between mixes figuring out what I was gonna play next, beltin' down a cocktail, talking with people/ friends, listen to any demos that people might have brought in, I only adjust the EQ if it is really necessary...which it usually isn't. For the most part, just figuring out what I was gonna play next
was enough because I don't play a pre determined set. It's all spur of the moment...which keeps one pretty busy.

Cool Mixing?

Streaming MP3 Trance Radio
When mixing what you do depends on the environment. If I'm in a club I'll get some crowd interaction going, i.e. dance and bring them up to the builds and vreaks etc. Usually it'll take the first 30 seconds or so after I've done one mix to pick my next tune. Allow another minute or more to CUE and beatmatch it and then you're into the breakdown of the current tune. If they're beatmatched and playing well together I'll drop in a few beats from the incoming tune, and more often than not they'll be time synced too so mini-breaks in the next tune coincide with ones in the build-up of the current one. Never ever would I stand there doing nothing, ppl would soon see that I wasn't that into what I was doing and thus loose interest themselves, but that's just my HO!

Depends on what I'm playing...

Epic Trance = me bouncing around having a hard time keeping headphones on my head cause I'm dancing so hard.

Progressive = me trying to keep my eyes opened because of how stunning the music can be, so captivating.

i love to put some samples of the next tune (voices or beats).
i search the next tune to mix, because i never determine my set previously.
i dont drink.
i dont smoke.
i just look the crowd to determinate my next movement.
