WOW i loved this !!! i love this style. ophra ( el grecos eastern mix) is ORGASMIC. i cant seem to get into female vocals anymore so i think i took a liking to the first 30 min over the rest. i felt the beat throughout !!! very deep, nice... i'll definately be listening to this again .. thanks for providing me the opportunity to listen to this !!!

Your server dropped my connection 2x @ 15:46 mins into the set. Not going to try again ;(

1st mix; very nice
2nd mix (last mix I get to hear, into Girls can be cruel); don't like where you start bring it in, it's out of phase. The two tracks don't really work that good together. The sounds are really different. Your bass swap is pretty average, and not very smooth. Close to double beating also; a very long slow save (about 45 seconds).

I was looking forward to hearing the rest, especailly when you nailed 1 mix and struggled in the other. Will keep an eye out!

sorry i haven't been around in a while, i am in the middle of a move to LA. no computer at the apt yet, so i am checking this from the local library.

thanks for all the comments. glad you all liked the set. i love this style of darker, driving progressive house/trance. djway, i hope you get to listen to the rest of the set, I appreciate your criticism. i would like to hear what you have to say about the rest of the set. anyway, expect another set sometime soon, as soon as i get my decks out here. life without turntables is purely boredom. nuff said.

PS anybody else listen??

I gave this mix a listen at work today ...

I liked the track list alot except for Against the Grain - Further (Harry Lemon Remix) and Made by Monkeys - I Try ... I really didn't like the vocals on those, altho I think I would like dub versions of those tracks.

The mixing/beatmatching was on the whole quite good, I'd say better then mine . But I did notice the beats being slightly off on a few transitions.

Over all I enjoyed it, minus the vocals.

A few things...

1) Great beginning!

2) Try to keep the volume balanced - a few songs seemed louder than others.

3) My personal motto is to never use the same song in a mix - even if it's a different version.

4) The ending songs didn't seem to fit in - I can't put my finger on it, but some other selections could have sparked it up.

Overall, FANTASTIC mixing and superb sound quality - one groovilicious mix!! 3.8/5

Keep up the good work!

Cheers!

What did you use to record this mix with? And what mixer did you use?

yeah, i kind of got lost on the last couple of tracks as far as selection. it's funny, i didn't want to use ophra a second time, but the track before it was ending and i was between which track to pick next. i wanted to hear what the ophra remix sounded like so...i just threw it down. i spun this set on the fly, just after receiving all the tracks from only-djs. so i didn't plan the mix too much. just listened to the records real fast, then put'em together and out came my first set ever posted. great to hear everyone's comments. oh, by the way, i used vinyl and i have an ecler smac-40 mixer. love the mixer, real smooth and nice eqs. anyway, expect another set sometime soon, as soon as i get my computer, my turntables, and my mixer out to cali. thanks again for all the comments. later

2 tips for recording a mix set

Here are two of the most important things I've learned about making a mix set:

1) CHEAT! How? SIMPLE!! Say you are mixing song A into song B. The mix isn't great and you want to do it over. Don't throw your entire mix out! What you do is keep the recording going. Stop song B and place your needle about 3/4th of the way back into song A and redo the mix! This way, you can redo your mix until it's perfect. Using an audio editing program, you can slice out the bad mix and nobody knows you messed up!! The only thing you have to be aware of is that you don't change your tempo at all - otherwise you'll have to start all over (or be very good about matching your tempo using that audio editing program).

2) Test your songs out! One of the best ways to get a REALLY good mix set is to listen to how the songs fade into each other. On-the-fly mixing is great, but excellent mixes are thought out ahead of time and planned. It adds so much more to your mix.

Cheers!

I can't disagree more about both comments, realy the first. DJing is about creating a groove and expressing yourself as much as you can by the way you play and the records you put on. When you cheat with a computer you are only cheating yourself. What happens when you are in front of a crowd? Also if you get nit-picky about your programing your set comes out sounding artificial. John Digweed for example just spends a cople of days listening to tracks. And then goes on tour and records his sets for cd live, such as Hong Kong, Los Angeles.... All you need is practice, cofidence, and more practice.
