Yes it is you dipwad. Dave Dresden said so explicitly. Someone find that quote for me!
If you want a song about social issues, isn't there a song on PvD's Reflections that is supposedly about starving kids in India? Personally I think you could find much better songs to do it on since Reflections was a horrible pile of shit, but that's the first tune that came to mind.
As for PQM - You Are Sleeping, here are the lyrics as I have them:
| quote: |
you pick up this working girl, hooked on smack
"hustles and scores, thats all I do," she says
she says, "10 bucks for head, 15 for half & half"
she says "3 hits a day @ 35 per," you say "thats 7 tricks a day atleast"
she says "sometimes I get lucky. once this guy gives me a bill and a half just to eat me...only time I ever came"
you
are
sleep
ing
you figure you can save her
you sell your color TV and it keeps her off the streets a whole day
you hock your typewriter for one joe
then your shotgun, your watch
a week later you say "listen, I'm a little short"
but she says "no scratch, no snatch"
you say "look, it is better to give"
but she says "be gone, creep"
one night they spot you on the street in your skivvies trying to sell your shoes
you tell them who you are, but they fail you
then she happens bye and she says "christ, you look fucked"
she says "hang tough"
you don't say anything
you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me."
|
and here is my commentary on them...from another thread I made a while ago. Feel free to use it and expound on my theory :
| quote: |
well, I like it for both simplistic and more complex reasons. For me it's because it's like a sample from some 70's movie or something, and I just like stuff like that
plus I also like it just because of it's sheer strangeness and creepyness
But I also like it because it is the complete opposite of the song's sound and atmosphere, the way it is juxtaposed with the song is great: here you have this monolouge about such a horrible and disturbing and disheartening subject matter, but conversly, the song itself is very melow and fluffy sounding, very dreamy.
It also serves as sort of a social commentary, if you will. The title "you are sleeping" could figurativly refer to the fact that the protagonist in this little story is ignorantly blind to the truth of his situation, he is trying to save this girl who really doesnt give a shit and is going about it in all the wrong ways; he is alseep. Or, in a greater sense, society is asleep, choosing to overlook or ignore the horrible things that are going on every day, just down the street (ie, homeless and whoring yourself out for heroin).
there ya go |

not quite as morbid as those, but
"Adam Freeland - We Want Your Soul" has a pretty fuckin cool theme about consumer manipulation.

I tried searching and can't find it but I remember when he said it. It was when G&D were on ASOT and they gave some BS about what it was about. Then someone started a thread saying wait I thought it was about drugs but they just said on the radio that it wasn't. TDave responds saying of course they are not going to say it is about drugs on a huge radio network and of course it is really about E.

While reflections does suck me left testicle there are some solid tunes on there (all of whic had been previously released ). I know PVD said in an interview that Time of Our Lives is about the Israel/Palestine conflict. A google search should bring up the lyrics but they are a little vauge and do not really come out and say people are blowing themselves up on buses and driving tanks through towns. I think there are other tracks on reflections that are more explicit but I don't know which because I don't have reflections for the reasons stated above.

This is solid, the original poster totally needs to use this (especially the end).
