I love Orchidaceae. My favorites are Pleurothallis, Masdevallia, Odontoglossom, Brassia, Miltassia, Beallara, Oxyglossom, and of coruse Dendrobiums, but they're a family too big to just call Dendros.
New york sounds like a great place for odontoglossums outdoors. They're native to 10k+ ft altitude in the columbian andes. They're used to cool densely misty forest in indirect bright sunlight.

I'll be growing various herbs, tomatoes, potatoes, maybe some cabbage/lettuce, and beans. Drying and grinding herbs saves alot of money if you like to season your cooking, as it costs, what, 39 cents per container at the store.
