belt drive actualy have there place.....
for example if all i wanted to do is listen to records (not mix) i would MUCH prefer belt drive as they are superior for sound quality. but if your mixing direct is better.

what? how so? maybe if youre table doesnt have the pitch lock feature, maybe then id see a belt over a direct. wait, no i still wouldnt see it. how is a belt drive table ANY better for sound quality? how much can a tt affect sound quality? i mean, if they both had the same cartridges and needles of course. and were both in 'pitch lock' at 0% pitch. how is there any difference in sound QUALITY?

when the platter is mounted onto the motor you get vibrations from the motor which will be picked up by the needles. obviously these are not part of the song/record hence is noise. when there is a belt this dampens the motor vibrations. well actualy reduces the amount its picked up to almost zero.
you never wondered why high quality record players (not Dj turntables) are always belt drive....well thats the reason

It's interesting how we always scream "At least get direct drive tables!", yet I can imagine an audiophile board with people yelling "No, stay away from that one, it's direct drive!".
