well yeah I know but it's a bit different

if youre driving somewhere it doesn't matter if you have a porsche, ford or a ferarri...the car will probably get you to the place faster then walking there

when it comes to monitors you wan't the best possible sound so you don't miss out on stuff that you wouldn't hear with regular speakers...

when it comes to monitors (as I'm shure you already know of) you get what you pay for in 90% of the cases...if you buy a pair of alesis M1 you will get a descent monitor but a pair of genelec 1030 will still whop alesis ass, and unlike the cars it makes a diference how good it sounds

and since he has the money to go for the better brands I say go for it, if your'e serious about producing you'll never regrett buying high class monitors, it's just that easy

when it comes to the krk and rock, I really have no idea about that but etherium is probably right about it

just remember one thing when it comes to monitors, testlisten to all the monitors your'e thinking of buying. A monitor can be technically good but it has to fit your ears too, if it doesn't feel right when youre listening to a pair of monitors then it's not right, it's as simple as that

trust your ears and make shure you pick a pair that fits you well

Will keep that in mind, thanks for the advice. I'm inclined towards the Genelecs or Mackies...they have those in the studios back home and they really sound good. I mean, all the productions (mostly Reggaeton and Rap) come out crystal clear and balanced. I really like those two brands.

As a matter of fact, my project at school is to build a hypothetical studio within a $20000 budget. This thread may prove to be useful!

As for the monitors , my Event PS6's work pretty good, but I find that I always mix too much bass into all my songs, so I would suggest the TR8's which have better bass response.

As for other equipment. I find a laptop computer is a great addition because you can work on your tracks anywhere. I work on tracks in bed a lot of times.

You will need a good controller keyboard and a general purpose mixer. I use a Mackie 1202 and it handles all my equipment with no problem.

A powerfull computer should be the center of youqur studio and it should have a nice big monitor(or even dual) so you can see all of your sequencer tracks.

Good old analog synths are cool, but they are a bitch to control (CV vs. midi) and some have tuning problems(they go out of tune quick). I would just get a few modern analog modeling synths and plugins and avoid all hassels that would get in the way of creativity.
