I need to replace the big black mount.

Yup, looks like you do...

Hmmm, if the other 3 clips clip into place, just glue the last side on or something with some heat resistant (and non-conductive) glue. Should be fine, as long as you aren't planning on changing the CPU or anything...

Yeah, that would be the entire socket, not just the piece you broke off.

Not sure how easy it would be to replace that on a mobo...

ZIF socket is specifically the white square thing (with holes in it) that the CPU goes into. ZIF stands for Zero Insertion Force (generally, little to no force is required to put the CPU in place - made this way to prevent bent pins). This is why you should never force a CPU into place, cuz if it ain't going in, you're putting it in wrong.

conk, have you considered to buy a heat sink that is mounted directly via the mobo hole, they are kinda of expensive and oversized but in my experience it is the best way to mount a heat sinks on cpu sockets.

swiftech makes a really nice heat sink, i forgot the model # and the name of it but you can find the info at www.swiftnets.com

A lot of higher end and heavy heat sinks require new holes/mounts to be drilled into the motherboard to that it does not fall off. I have a zalman copper flower and it required a remount to my board. Most high-end or custom computer shops (memory express in calgary, NCIX in vancouver) will be able to do the work for you if you want to buy a new heatsink (stock heatsinks sorta suck).
