Just a word of warning, there's no proof that Al-Qaeda actually had anything to do with this, although some signs do indeed to point to some kind of Islamic extremist involvement, it's premature, if not irresponsible to go around blaming them when you essentially have no proof. It's a real possibility that ETA might have carried this out, even though (I believe) that this would be their largest scale attack to date.

I strongly doubt eta had anything to do with it as an attack on this scale would be extremely detrimental to their cause.

Spain is still not sure who it was, they first thought it was ETA since the explosives used are typical for the terrorist group and we're close to a new election. But when the terrorist group plans something like this, they usually make a warning call. In addition, they denied having any involvement with what happened.
Spanish police found one or two vans with detonators and readings from the Coran, that's where the idea with Al-Qaeda came from.

Where did you guys hear about them having a plan for the US 90% complete?

Agreed, but in all honesty, we don't know yet. There's ideas been floated around that essentially say that it could have been a cooperation, or a breakaway movement from ETA. It really is up in the air, and to conclusively point your finger at anyone is naive IMO.

And no, a letter isn't proof of anything. As I understand it, the group that wrote that letter has put their foot in it several times before, and really aren't trustworthy.
