Jet Li is the shit. I used to hang out with this Korean kid who tell me all about him.

He ususally always has masters as co-stars so they all can fight...especially Jet, and I am not talking just movie fighting...real life he kicks serious ass.

Jet Li in HERO was good. That movie just owns.

Obviously Bruce lee movies were good. Except for the one done w/ Chuck Norris.

Any other suggestions???

King

steve chow is funny, not really a martial artist but a chinese comedian, spoofs of films and shit, well funny

anyway, to the subj.

jackie chan was the king of asian film thru the 80s, armour of god, wheels on meals, project a, police story etc to name a few of his finest stunts

jet li is a modern martial artist, however his 'the one' film kinda let me down, it was full of slo-mo effects and shit, i felt this kinda drew away from what martial arts is abt.

but jet li has done work in the 80s, he wasnt well known then, he starred in the once upon a time in china films, they were the raw flying in the air chopping each over up films, they were cool, i grew up watching them

also jet li was the champion in the under 20s martial arts tournament in the 80s, cant remember the exact date, i must find vcd to watch again ROFL

Ogm have you seen Bloodsport? That movie is 'teh pwn'. Martial arts master Jean Claude Van Damme at his best.

agreed,,, i know his recent stuff is very substandard entertainmentwise, but the guy is so talented its not even funny, i have his first ever movie [so i was told] on DVD 'master with cracked fingers' and its quite different, jackie is very young and more chinese looking than he looks now, and his moves r fairly basic in terms of martial arts mastery and in comparoison to what you will see him do now a days. but even now i dont think his stunts are as good as what they were back when he left golden harvest to join the mainstream in hong kong [or was it to join golden harvest? cant remem] movies like wheels on meals etc is jackie at his very best. co starring yun bieu [equally amazing] makes the movie a pleasure to watch. shame they arnt like that now, and it is because of the jet li fans like my friend that made me wanna make a thread about it, as my friend nik loves jet li, but he wont sit down and watch one of my old skooly kung fu movies with me.

even by jackie chan standards, i'd still class his stuff as a little mainstream, with regards to his armour of god etc movies. i wanna hear of ppl watching REAL kung fu movies... im talking crappy dubbing, silly voices, diabolically crap film quality ,'you killed my dad now im gonna beat up all 136 of your men then struggle to kill you at the end for about 5 minutes till i get my second wind from having a flashback of seeing my mother and sister being beat up' type of kung fu movie anyone into these?

Actually, I beleive Li himself said his style of Wushu wasn't ideal for actual combat.

No one can come close to Bruce Lee. Unlike Jet Li movies that use way too many wires and fake fighting (which I find boring), or Jackie Chan who does crazy acrobatic feats (which I love, but aren't at all practical for real combat) , Bruce Lee's movies emphasized realism in most all of their aspects. While Bruce was certainly aware of what looks good for a camera, such as a kick to the face. Bruce himself said "kicking someone in the face is like punching them in the foot." Still, it doesn't take a lot away from the detail and realism in his movies. Just watch in the game of death when he beats the shit out of that O'Hara guy. No super fancy wire-fu, no impossible high round kicks, no bullshit like that. BOOM, one quick punch to the face and he's on the ground.

Someone needs to bring back realism in martial arts films. Hell, I loved Kill Bill and I love Jackie Chan (the crazy feats in his movies he does himself, no wires, no nothing, and you've gotta love em, but as for the fighting its not _real_ martial arts), but someone needs to inject a good dose of reality into a martial arts film, big time.

its all a matter of opinion, some people like the fantasy aspect of it.

Myself, I like the realism, but to each their own.
