Unless you guys are planning to book Astral Projection, Astrix, Guy Salama, Infected Mushroom, 1200 Micrograms, Hallucinogen, Talamasca, and our local psy/goa/tribal/breaks/D&B/jungle DJs I'm not paying anything over $25 for this event... |
you're a complete moron, its $300 for all your expenses, the total to go toronto would be well over $500 probably close to $1000 by the time you were done with wemf, and who cares if the djs are "unknown" or are you one of those idiots that thinks you have to be on the top 100 to know how to dj? People like you are whats wrong with the scene, I've heard/read hundreds of reviews that shambala was the experience of a life time but hey you seem to know your stuff so whatever

Oh God! No more outburst from you! The key here is if you go to WEMF as a group you save big. Here is the expenses break down in case you want to look at the estimated cost of going to WEMF
Trip plan
=========
From: Vancouver, BC
Canada To: Toronto, ON
Canada
Estimated travel time: 38 hours and 6 minutes for 4386.67 km of travel.
Days driving
------------------
Assuming that you are doing 120km/h and you and your friends drive for 14h a day, switching drivers every 4 hours, then you can drive 1680km /day. So it will take you around 3 days to get to Toronto.
Gas
----
191.60*2= $383.21 both ways (assumption fuel consumption is at 5.2 L/100 km )
Now split that between 4 people and you get
$95/person on fuel
Hotel
-----
rent 1 room and bring sleeping bags for the other 3 friends that are going with you.
Renting a room at a cheap hotel is $40/night. Now, rent 1 room and split the cost between 4 people. Every night someone takes the bed and others sleep in sleeping bags. Total cost for a 6 days worth of hotel is
40*6/4 = 60/person on accommodations
WEMF Ticket
------------------
$60/person FOR 3 DAYS (early bird price)
Food
-------
$15/day * 9 days (3 days going there, 3 days partying, 3 days going back) = $135
Car + Tent + Sleeping bags
----
$0 (Assuming someone has a car, a tent and sleeping bag)
TOTAL COST
------------------
$95/person on fuel +60/person on accommodations+$60/person FOR 3 DAYS (early bird price) + $135 (food) = $350 for the entire trip for WEMF
$350 for WEMF (NON LOCAL EVENT) vs. $300 for shambala (LOCAL EVENT)

Thanks for ignoring what I said and twisting all my words against me. First off Astral Projection, Astrix, Guy Salama, Infected Mushroom, 1200 Micrograms, Hallucinogen, Talamasca are not in the top 100. While bringing our local psy/goa/tribal/breaks/D&B/jungle DJs you are supporting the local scene. Pay more attention to detail when you read. Don't just rush and post something incoherent without reading what the other person has said.

How so? Because I posted what I thought about paying $300 for a local party... You have to give me and other non believers more reasons to attend this rather than just cuss at me. $300 goes a long way, but I guess if you are promoter and you are trying to rip people off then charging anything over $100 for tix is ok, right?
If you are really there for the music and think that this is the experience of a life time and you want as many people to attend to this as possible and share your passion for the electronic scene then lower the prices and you’ll see more people in attendance. This kind of parties should be free IMHO. I mean I want to see the exact breakdown of your expenses, because I’m a bit confused as to why I have to pay soo much for a ticket and all the other expenses.

Good to hear that Shambala is an experience of a lifetime. I don’t claim to know my stuff, but posting that the cost of the party will be $300 doesn’t really get my hopes up. I guess to you money is something you can throw around. I’m a student and my tuition is $4500/term now that’s $9000 for 2 university terms just on Tuition. I also have to pay for housing and food while I’m studying. While in Van I have to pay for my accommodations and food as well. $300 bucks is one month’s rent in Waterloo, and if you think that poor folks on this board are willing to spend this kind of money in 3 days then you are mistaken. If to you money is something you use to wipe your ass with in the bathroom and it’s an unlimited resource to you then do as you please.

Also if you had got Early bird tickets for Shambhala you would be paying about $80/ticket.
Now I haven't been to WEMF. But from anyone I know that has gone to both have said that Shambahala was a way better time.
I found it was well worth the money I paid to go. Most DJ's that I heard there played way better sets then most International DJ's I've heard.

I'm not sure how you guys can be squaring these two events off against each other. For me, at least, driving half way across the country is not an option I would consider. The event 3500km away could be astronomically better, I still wouldn't go.
I don't think the $350 vs. $300 is a realistic comparison either. A similar price breakdown for Shambhala using the same logic would have been:
$15 each for gas
8 hours drive
$0 motels
$80 early bird ticket
$45 food for 3 days
So it should be $350 vs. $140 making the same assumptions of no snacks/refreshments on the way, no extras at the event like beer and such, really good gas mileage, no monetary impact from taking 7 days off work as opposed to 1, etc.
I don't doubt that WEMF is a fantastic event and I would love to go, it's just not a viable alternative to Shambhala for someone out west.
