No need to worry Tranceporter. THe HD280 is compatible with boths types of connections. It comes with 1/4th inch adapater that screws onto the i/8th plug for use with mixers.

WHen you first get the phones, they may sound like they lack. However, don't be discouraged. AFter about 100 hours of hearing. The true sound of the phones comes out and damn it sounds good. 500+ hours of usage is supposedly whut it takes to completely "burn in " the HD-280

The hd280s will sound bright at first but give it 40hrs and it will start to sound better. When i got mine i hooked them up to a stereo receiver and played a cd in a continous loop for a week at a loud volume after which the hd-280s sounded very nice w/ a deep detailed range. Like alot of sennheiser headphones the hd280s need a good burn-in for best sound
