So yea.... Did we ever figure out how to get rid of the lag using this plugin for winamp?

ok people, well I hope this all works for you aswell, but I don't have any input plugins, I just have Winamp 5 and a load of Visuals, and all I do to make this work is goto, ADD > URL then type in "linein://" I use it alot, and it works on my laptop, with whatever I plug into the microphone input, as for lag, I'm lucky, I don't have any, its awesome to watch when your scratching, especially, when you have it hooked up to an external monitor and a TV, oh and its awesome for house partys, I always use Milkdrop, well good luck, I hope its easy for everyone else to get going.

EDIT: oh yea, after adding the linein link, don't forget to press play after selecting the link in the playlist, I've had afew people say it doesn't work cos they never clicked play.

get a vj if you want some real visuals


I personaly vj and our people always make fun of others trying to make visuals with winamp.

Yeah video mixers come in play .... but is this this you speak of ? Dvd's with random movie clips? That sounds like a terrible idea.

Most of the content I mix when I do visuals is stuff I filmed/created myself or people I work with.

One difference with vjing is that you try and use your own content the most .... nothing "copied" ( even if it can be done ( like stuff off the tv and such but it's kinda crappy to do that ) ) ... it's just not creative and it's considered cheating.

question: you say you use line in (your mic jack) now i know that it's not good to put your mixer's output into your mic jack...it can actually do bad shit to your soundcard, because the signal is too strong or something...

are you sure it's your mic input , and not your sound input?

I always get the two mixed up ( what's the most sensitive input compared to the other ) but yes if you do plug into the incorrect input you can damage your sound card severely.

( I think mic input is the most sensitive so if you plug a line level source into it you'll get distortion and it could potentialy destroy the input ).

Line level sources tend to have a much higher dbm then microphones.

Your mixer should be plugged into line input .... if you plug into the mic input it's bad.

Glad to hear it worked again Dirk, and yea, I don't need a VJ, my mixing makes up for the lack of visuals, but they are nice still, and as for the mic sensitivity thing, well its true, it can damage the input, but when I use my laptop I only have one input and thats the Mic input, all you do is make sure that the Mic db Boost is of, and make sure the channel is turned down, then plug your mixer in, and adjust so its not to loud but it effects the visuals good enough, I've been doing it for ages and the Mic input is fine, but theres still a chance you could damage it, but I been lucky and don't care anyway, I don't use the input for anything else, but if you people want to do this on a laptop, but don't want to use the Mic input then you could buy a PCMCIA sound card, theres one called the Indigo I/O card, and it comes with a Line input and a Line output, and I think its capable of 96khz, I'm looking into getting one in the future so I can record mixes onto my lappy aswell, well hope this info helps some.

If you really must use winamp plugins instead of a proper VJ (you want visuals but VJ's are not needed )

Also Follow the steps in 4. Tweaking as you need that to stop an latency issues.

As most DJ's cannot use a mix /amp you *may* need to monitor the sound input coming in. It needs really to be a managable level.
Most Dj's will just keep increasing the volume via the mixer and it will screw all the input sound at the end of the night when the levels all max out. Depends on the DJ and mixer though.

Be careful on what resolution your projector can take so don't go mad.

Then run MilkDrop, R4 (well that will work standalone), etc.
