Now this is something I don't understand. The difference of the lyrics of the released and unreleased mix are about 2 words... doesn't really make much of a difference. |
I've wondered this too, especially since the difference has seemed significant to me from day one.
There are a few reasons I found, foremost being the tone of the vocal run itself. Even though only some of the lyrics were changed, Carla Werner had to sing the entire vocal over again (multiple times, I'm sure) to get a new cut, possibly for multiple mixes.
I have an old-lyrics demo rip of the Gabriel & Dresden Remix, and this seems to confirm my suspicions. The vocal is decidedly different from that of the released version, in more ways than just the lyrics. I see no reason why the Tiesto remix would be any different in this regard, and indeed, it sounds different to me (taking the higher BPM into account, by the way).
It's also worth noting that I've isolated additional vocal effects in the Tiesto and Gabriel & Dresden liveset rips that are not included in the final release of either. The Tiesto tweaked the end of "insincerity", and the background 'vocal howl' in the Gabriel & Dresden demo mix is unmistakable (cue Dave Dresden posting and saying 'you're wrong.' )
The best way I can put it is that the unreleased vocals have soul. The released ones, well, don't. They sound emptier in emotion and delivery.
