Wow, didn't expect to get so much flak for this. I was just making a small comment, not attacking Markus. He is both a good producer and DJ, and he's done a lot for electronic music.

I don't buy the German business though, he's been living in the US since he was 13. I don't know exactly how old he is, but he started DJin in 1984, and as far as I can tell he has been living in the US during that time.

I just find it annoying that he always says "Gab-ree-ell" (i.e. the way Gabrielle is pronounced) instead of "Gay-bree-uhl". And on Global DJ Broadcast (08-03-04) he says "Sah-toh-shee To-mee". Should be something more like "Sah-toh-shee To-mee-ay", with the "mee" sound just slightly elongated.

But I reiterate, it's not a big deal. I was just pointing out a small quirk.

PS: It would appear that the correct pronunciation of "Dyk" is something more like "duke". At least, that's how it's pronounced in every German broadcast I've heard. However, a lot of times it is pronounce "dike", and I don't get the impression that Paul is annoyed by this.

Edit: Just saw last post, and I wouldn't blame him for mispronouncing Johan Gielen's name. I doubt that most English-speaking people can. I know the "g" is really hard for me to pronounce the correct, Dutch, way. Markus does have a German background, so he might be able to do it, but, like I said above, he's been in the US for the majority of his life.

As far as the pronunciation of Tomiie, I direct your attention to this website.

And yeah, I can forgive him for mispronouncing it, I was just using it as an example. But "Gabriel"? Come on, how hard is it to pronounce that?

i never ever trust books or websites that promise to teach you the phonetic rules of a language

language wasn't based on rules, the books just take the language and try to generalize it.

We say gab-riel and dresden here in Oz, not Gaybriel like all you americans.

And i always thought that PVD was pronounced like Paul Fann Dyke

V is pronounced like f in German, and Dyk is pronounced just how everyone says it.....dyke, except in German they sort of slur the k sound at the end

Funny thing is...I don't recall Josh or Dave ever complaining about it. Don't you think if it was really that big a deal one of them would have already made an issue of it? And you seem to know who Markus is talking about when he tells you the artist of a track or the guest dj so isn't that really the most important thing?
