A couple of favourites of mine:
- Scaramouche (Avenue Rd, South of St. Clair)
- Susur (King St., East of Bathurst)

Scaramouche does have a bit of a view, if you get one of the nice tables by the windows. Both restos are rather pricey.

Also, in my opinion, Panorama is really just a 'lounge' more than anything - not ideal for a meal. 360 is for tourists - food is average at best.

360 is fabulous for a nice dinner date, but it's even cool if you're going in the afternoon with friends or whatever. It's true that it's pricey, but the food is beyond par. You've already mentioned all of this, Christina, but just to emphasize, the view (especially around sunset time in summer) is gorgeous, seriously.
On the south side, on a clear night, you can see all the way to rochester, ny. It really is an awesome view. With a dinner reservation, you get complimentary access to the other 2 below it, including the Glass floor deck. I dont know if its complimentary as well, but you can also go up to the Sky Pod, which is about 14 stories higher than 360. Even if its not free, its only another 7 bucks maybe...just dont go up there on a windy day if you get motion sickness :P...it sways :|

As for the food , Ive never eaten there...I would love to one day tho just to experience it once (I'm not dropping any hints here, I swear ) but it would definitely be a treat...Also, it has a very high end clientele, so Im going to assume that the food has to be pretty good. I know the wine cellar is the highest one in the world, and they have a very large wine selection. Its actually known for its Wine Cellar, so if you do go, I highly suggest going all out and getting a wine as well

(ps, i never worked there or anything, and if Im wrong about anything, sorry maybe somebody else has more accurate information (ahem))

I really enjoyed Brasserie Aix on College in Little Italy, where I went for Valentine's Day! Decent prices, absolutely stunning decor in the back room, and right around the corner from about a billion martini bars, for pre- or post-dinner drinks.

Also would highly recommend visiting Toronto Life for other suggestions. Don't let their prices scare you - you can often eat for MUCH cheaper, since critics go for the full course meal and drink the best wines!

Hope you have an awesome evening

I have a few suggestions, but it may not fit with what you're looking for - they're nice places but not classy in the formal sense.

First is Tempo on College, near Clinton. Very hip, nice atmosphere and stylish, minimal decor. Food is quite good, but reasonably priced - japanese fusion; their sushi is very good.

Second is Kalendar, also on College. Warm interior, more relaxed than classy. Good drinks and a good mixed menu. Excellent desserts.

Phunky: I've been to the Octangon, and it lives up to the hype.. great food at enormous prices, however the decor is a little dated (but still classy)

An even better place than that tho is Morton's Steakhouse on Avenue just north of Bloor, it's under a hotel... can't remember which one.. (hyatt i think?). It's super expensive tho, everything on the menu is a la carte (a steak comes as a steak, you have to order extra sides if you want them). The best part is that the waiter displays the menu to you with examples of the actual meat/seafood that you will eat. Saw Domi there too

Tha_Broad: the food i've had at 360 was great.. it was not their normal menu however, but the event was catered by the same staff.

Yep, I heard good things about that place too. How expensive is it really? I assume the stake is like $30 and a glass of some mediocre wine is arond $12-15, right?

Na the skypod isn't included with the meal but its only an extra $7.

Dinner for 2 will set you back about $180 - $250 with a bottle of wine. Its not cheap and the portions are very very small but its very good and an amazing view....be sure to ask for a window seat

I have only one word for you, Terra.

www.terrarestaurant.ca

8199 Yonge Street, in Thornhill.

The nicest place I've been to in Canada...

slight downside, 4 of us racked up a bill topping $500.00 but it was worth it!

I'm looking for a decent restaurant in Vaughan/north Toronto/Richmond Hill for a family get-together on Friday night. The party will be about 14 people. It should be relatively formal (not too formal, but not a casual place either) and preferably not Italian food.

Any suggestions?

If you got the funds and are ready for top notch culinary in this city getting perfect score from Toronto Life try Scaramouche. Its hidden in the St Clair and Avenue residentual part but the view is breathtaking of the skyline.
