Trance is actually easier to mix.

30 second mixes are easier to maintain than my 4 min prog mixes.

Slower bpms require more preciseness.

Just remember the wise words of someone long forgotten:

"How can you tell when a jungle dj trainwrecks? Simple, you can't!"

*awaits the backlash*

I think we have so many trance djs and producers that all the innovative ideas get used up quick but as with prog there aren't as many djs and producers (am i correct?) so that the innovation is more spread out in time instead of all at once like trance

Well i wouldn't say that. I've played both and the only real issue with trance is key changes. You've got to watch that 2 different sythns from different tunes arn't playing at the same time in different keys or it sounds crap. Mixes tend to be a lot quicker with trance as a result.

At times simple beat matching can be easier as well, but there is a lot more all round skill needed i think with making a prog mix sound smooth. It can be in perfect time but still sounds awful. ( oh and my tracklists deffo don't suck )

i agree with Floorfiller on this one. i think that its much easier to mix prog then to mix trance well, because prog tunes are in general more layered than trance tunes and there are more sounds going on, so its relatively easy to blend tunes in and out of each other, whereas with trance, to mix it well requires a great deal more imagination, beacuse your dealing with a more basic sound, i think....this is just what i found when i mixed trance....saying that i think the real talent in prog is the set structure. its what spearates the really good from the rest.

the real fun is in mixing techno & being able to experiment much more, trance can be good if mixed well but theres a world of mini armin van buurens all playing the same songs that make it boring, harder trance (scot p) is coming back after 12 months lull now too, and im branching into psy more also which is the hardest of all of them to mix, simply cos of the random beat patterns

theres more good hard trance tunes in the last 3 months or so, than in a long time, it might not be featured in the 'big' clubs like crasher & gods now to such a big extent, but Scot Project, Yoji & Tom Harding for example are playing blinding sets lately, and ASYS are shit hot production wise. It's probably good for it that it doesn't become too popular again anyway, as we were just left with horrid tracks that counted as 'hard' but with these dj's plus those playing acid/hard techno @ Antiworld/Psygate/Zogg, there's a good choice of music for those who don't want it too soft

trance is boring.

trance dj:
look at me! me me me! woohoo i can swap basslines. wait... wait... ok ::breakdown:: (GOD POSE) (PUMP FISTS IN 4 COUNT) (GOD POSE).

30 second mixes take so much skill.

any just to let you know-- you have to look for "key clashes" in every genre, not just trance.

a) I am a trance DJ, and I do not do that. In fact, I discourage any act that allows a trance DJ to glory in himself for playing other people's music. Credit goes most to the producer, not the DJ; the latter is simply a vehicle.

b) Mixing trance involves more than swapping basslines, and anyone who does simply that does not count as a good trance DJ in my book (*cough*Armin*cough*).

c) And your purpose for being on tranceaddict is...?
