Actually, I take that back. Saying they're euro-inspired is an insult to eurodance.

Why is there any need to add vocals to a trance track when the instrumental's good enough already eg plastic boy - live another life and evoke - arms of loren to name a few. Is this a descion thats taken by the records label and if so do the producers get any say in it?

they add vocals to make money, appeal to the mass markets more.I do like a bit of vocal trance, always good to have a sing-a-long in a club but it does piss me off when they add vocals after production eg. plastic boy - live another life.

what do you all think of the vocals on Markus Schulz presents Elevation - Somewhere (Clear Blue)?

i have to agree. too many cheesey lyrics in tunes. if you don't have something good...don't put in vocals.

i think a lot of the time they add them because they know the tune is crappy...but they want to try and turn it into something people will buy.

too many people out there like stupid "big" synths and crappy vocals...both can be good, but only when done right...

I feel the same way. I like Venus, but too many tracks have vocals just for the sake of it.

A classic example is Beachbreeze. When I first heard it I was pleasantly surprised because it was far better than the other stuff Svenson & Gielen had been putting out last year. Then I heard the vocal mix.

Point being, the tune works fine without vocals. This is true for almost any vocal track released now. How many times have I heard a promo release of a track only to be told that "it will be released in a month with a new vocal mix"?

Trance is becoming ever more popular, in part due to this phenomenon, but while continuing this trend may increase the number of casual listeners it will only alienate the true fans. Surely this is not in the best interest of the producers who are supposedly in the business because they love the music.

well, i don't think it's the vocalists fault actually, it's the producers, and it's a big problem with producers that have no skills of vocal layering, like carlo resoort, see the instrumental 4 strings stuff is perfectly ok, and take me away was ok in terms of vocal layering, but then after, dude just realized that he can cash in on the vocals and then just slapped on them and it sounded gash.

the key is to make them sound slapped on, one of the most succesful vocals that was slapped on a track was perception, but those vocals were handled good, that is the main problem, procucers need to make the vocals complement the track.

also a big problem is the vocal whoring that jan started, i like jan, she is a great singer, but when people started to hire to sing on tracks just because they wanted some airplay on tmf, that's when everything went wrong.

and for the record, justine is a ok singer, but very, very overated, chicane managed to get the best of her in "autumn tactics", the rest of the songs has just been wrong

this is a special message to black hole, armada music & anjunabeats, stop slapping on gash vocals on mint instrumentals.

Sometimes I feel this way because if you think about it, vocals limit the meaning of a song, there are only so many ways to define words, but trying to define sounds creates an much harder task. A track that seems sad to one person might be extremely uplifting for another. In that way I appreciate vocal-less tracks a great deal more because they have the power to move without cheap talk. Sounds speak louder than words.
