In my opinion, commercialization in itself is not a good argument against an artist's works. Art should be judged for what it is, not the circumstances of its creation, whether someone else than the superstar dj produced it, and so on. The music is the essential.
Having said that, I have listened to quite a lot of trance and progressive house the last months (I am normally, believe it or not, a classical music head :P) and well, I also feel that some of the older releases from say 95 or 96 outshine many of today's productions. But still, there is a lot of good stuff today. Producers such as Gabriel & Dresden, Solarstone, Airwave, Markus Schulz and others are coming with things I really find good. Has the scene lost its touch with its roots? Maybe, but there still are a lot of good underground artists out there.

Some people tend to grow musically speaking, some not, like some people tend to become mature in some fields of real life (socializing, etc.)... Music was different in 1999, life was different. Everybody was dancing on Gouryella, Britney Spears and the gang... it was cheese, and that was it... Nowadays, I'm part of these people which just can't dance on this kind of music, but prefer stuff such as Dresden & Schultz, or even good old music, which is a music which will never turn outdated because of its nature...
it's like trend... trends change, people change, there is no sense turning back: we've got to live our life based on our feelings and not about the ways we used to feel some years ago. It's the same question if you ask yourself: will I call back my ex-gf ? No way !

prodigy child, the word is certain, not surtain.
and my opinion about the deal is that it has changed with the time, dont think it improved or got worse, just changed.
and change is good
oh, and about prog,,, i believe the best tunes came out between '01 and early '03.
dont really like hearing ppl ranting bout prog (or trance for that matter) dying,, coz it cant die, it just changes,
so what if its not the same thing as it was in the past...
if you got a problem with todays trance (or any other genre),, go and produce something you like better by yourself.
