Got it

Not really a fan, Great production, just not as laid back as Ulrich, which is what I was after. It's a lot more glitchy.

you're just fishing for an analgue vs digital debate arent you

will check out those recommendations, as i'm just beginning to explore downtempo music. with such names as blu mar ten, and telefon tele viv, they arent any chance more on a french jazz front are they? never really got into the whole french deep jazz housey, loitering at a trendy prahan cafe on a sunday morning, indulging in my davidoff cigarette, and awaiting a focaccia and cafe latte - kinda music. i'm just not cool enough to pull that off.

anyway, for a more ethereal sound that's almost as intricate as ulrich's - though not as textured, probably due to the differences of technology available at the time, check out global communications - 76:14. beautiful zen like stuff.

No, but I do prefer it 4 something like this.

It's not really french sound (telefon tele viv).

woo, telefon tel aviv are very nice indeed!!

been caining thier first album over the last few months - fahrenhiet fair enough.

a map of what is effortless is ok, bit poppyish though, has some rad tracks though.

wouldnt call them very jazzy.

are you into IDM or ambient stuff at all? like autechre, biosphere, diagram of suburban chaos, dntel, isan?

downtempoish, tripped outish, radish (haha!) and just plain cool.

also check out the artificial intelligence series put out on warp - and all warp stuff for that matter.

WARP RECORDS RULEEEEEEEE.

i came into this stuff through zero 7, lamb, air, telepopmusik, herbalisier and the DJ Kicks series etc etc etc.

oh and cant go past Kruder and Dorfmeister.

well theres a pretty diverse range of names there, dunno how many other ppl are into this kinda stuff on here, but yer, if ure just getting in to it (kinda like me) check a few names out and then go from there

Air - Moon Safari

Ambient at its best... Nuff said...

A real dissapointment that none of their subsequent albums (with the possible exception of The Virgin Suicides) lives up to Moon Safari in quality.

Listening to Air - Talisman now!!!

sounds like i'm travelling on a similar path to yours gumble, though maybe a few miles behind. i've been into trip hoppy stuff for a while, with the usual suspects - massive attack, portishead, lamb, unkle, goldfrapp (black cherry is a fantastic album btw) and i'm just getting into zero 7. but i'm actually getting into the more ambient or IDM stuff from tiring of 4/4 beats. i checked out party breaks for a lil while, mainly from fingerlickin, but thought it really wasnt for me. so explored proggy atmospheric breaks a little more, and soon enough came across ned sheperd's sets. pretty unique, never heard such chilled sets before other than from putte ponsbach with "celebrating diversity". kinda taught me to mix from breakdown to breakdown, using purely harmonies. anyway i digress!

sounds like the warp label is where to go. just reading up, that's where aphex twin has most of his releases. i already plan to check out autechre, plaid, boards of canada and squarepusher. would anyone know whether they're more of a dreamy style, rather than some of the mind boggling, intricate and almost strange sounds that aphex twin sometimes produces? ah, also plan to check out biosphere's - substrata album. reading good things, but may be a tad dark?

anyway, should be an interesting journey.

If you're getting into Zero 7, then definetly definetly check out Fragile State. One half of Zero 7 in Fragile State (can't remember where i heard this, but i'm 70% sure)

Fragile State's style is very live. Live strings, beats n bass. Some singing..it all flows beautifully. Very similar to The Cinematic Orchestra, just...more melodic? Hard to say, just try them for sure!

aphex twin has a few ambient works, regarded very highly.

biosphere is deep, VERY deep - but give it a go!

oh yer, forgot squarepusher, his stuff rocks! 2nd album is pretty wicked, cant remember name atm - lost my copy

even techno dudes like speedy j and richie hawtin under his plastikman guise put out some tripped out stuff - on the early warp record releases!

anyway - keep this thread going with names guys!

so i got more to check out once i get dsl again.....

Skyway 7 - Passersby

Daaaammn...randomly downloaded this album for something different...and found an album smelling of Ulrich and so much more From what i've read, this guy from the US sent in a demo to Guidance Recordings (Bent, Nu Spirit Helsinki, Groove Corporation) who hooked him back a G4, mixing board n some synths cos they liked what they heard. What came back in return was this album, and its just beautiful! Lotsa guitars, twiddled vocals n chill beats..

If you're into something different, something chill, and something very much Ulrich vs. U2, then hunt this down - you'll definetly enjoy it
