At first I started buying Euro music because that was all I mixed with. However, spending countless hours at the record store and hearing mixes I now buy what I know to be good and what I can mix with. Now I mix Euro, trance, little house, mainstream remixes. My taste has grown while listening to other types of dance music. Yes, I too have some crappy vinyl but that is how I learn to be more choosy and get stuff I'm actually going to like and what is useful to me. I have come across some gems in the process.
