and so...

We as DJs have been given the gift of VU (volume unit) meters on each channel of the mixer, so when you cue up a track, match it's peak VU reading to the other, such as 2 yellows or only 1 yellow or 1 red. BUT NEVER MAX OUT THE VU METER! YOU WILL CLIP AND DISTORT THE SOUND!.

i thought vu meters where the needle type of meters where the LeD meters measure peaks of tracks...also on the pressing theory...how would that account for tracks being louder on cd then?

when i say louder i mean when it shows the same reading as another track on the led meter but noticably louder when u hear it....that is also what i'm talking about in my post further up

answers to some questions.....

there's a different in the output levels of turntables and cdplayers.
Turntables have a really small output value... I don't remember the actual number but it's somewhere under 1dB. CD Players have a more standard consumer-level output of +10dB (standard line-level). I know that there are stanton turntables that have the optional line-level output.

CDs are digitial grooves for 1s and 0s.
And so they can't be compared to physical music in the grooves of a record.

As for mixers without VU meters on each channel, are there not at least VU meters on your master output? If so,then you can make sure you don't go over a certain peak level on the master VU meter. If you add 2 tracks together, the output doesn't do a complete sum (ie: 3db + 3dB = 6db).. it'll be more like about 3 VUs on the meter.

and yes... as said before, your gain knobs are there to make all levels equal between sound sources.

As for the sound of the record being simply louder... that's due to how much compression was applied to the final mix before pressing to vinyl. Compression has been used more in newer releases than old ones, and so older pressings will probably sound quieter.
