I think there's some real nuggets of wisdom here, so hopefully this thread stays up top for awhile for people to see.

edit: While we're on the subject...I had another idea that may or may not have been covered already. Would it be best to remove the Kick from your drum loops and patch it to another track for the purpose of compressing the kick only??? I mean why muffle the cymbals and hihats...a drum patch consists of total opposite sides of the sound spectrum and so I would imagine this would seem like a better idea. Maybe even apply some HF Exciters to the snare/cymbals track while we're at it?
Is this what you guys already do?
