i dont see how they can legally shut down soulseek.

its a non profit organisation permitting the transfer of files from one pc to another. im sure any lawyer could find legitimate reasons for it to stay in operation.

File sharing can be a great way of finding tracks and artists you might never have known existed. I have purchased a number of CDs and some vinyl that I wouldn't have done without the luxury of hearing certain tracks in full first (sometimes the 1 minute previews on sites like juno just aren't enough). I like to have authentic music stacking my shelves, not rows of CDRs which is why I tend to buy most of the music I listen to. But p2p applications are definitely a healthy benefit to me.

1st time seeing you here Oldo, even though I've been here some time.

btw gotta agree with you. If it wasn't for the exposure brought about by online sharing people would not be introduced to countless quality trax. The key is to go and support your favorite dj when they come around or buy their vinyl.

funny thing is that I've seen various renoune djs live and they tend to spin on cd-r's alot more now. food for thought

that doesn't mean they downloaded them illegally. :P.

there will always be those turds that try to take advantage of the system, those are the people the corporations hate and are trying to stop with these lawsuits.

the downfall is that those who use it for the right purpose, preview then buy, cannot do that without fear of lawsuits.

it all sucks ass cause those turds that take advantage of the system out number us that use it in a productive manner.

my two cents.

I download because I can't afford the music, and would otherwise not be able to hear stuff I like on demand. if I had the money to purchase all the stuff I have, I would honestly do it. and I plan to once I can. the music industry isn't losing business from me, since it wouldn't have been there to begin with, and I'll buy more than if I had never taken up downloading as soon as I'm able to.

It does however mean that they've gotten the music on a CD from either the artists or the label themselves. Playing an MP3 you've downloaded illegally will most likely sound like shit on a big system, esp with the VBR most MP3s use nowadays.

If they are, as you said, renowned DJs, as in famous ones, they most likely got the actual CD sent to them by the label, or maybe the Artist before it was sent to label.

Fuck the greedy bitches

File sharing did a great thing and put overpaid babies back on their place... They still way overpaid IMO...

Now if i like the song/album/liveset ,whatever i download, i will pay the money and see their performace.. or i will buy a record to play out. Thats how artist should be compensated... not a percentage of millions of cd's they sell... only makes goldbrick recording companies richer

The track shouldn't be more then a showcase of the artists ability adn what to expect on their performcace.

its different for RAP/Pop/Rock

because they all make artist albums and it takes them a long time to do it DJ/Producers are always making new songs and our scene is changing faster then any other...

good point
like armin lots.....

when they aren't famous all of them want to spread their work
when they are famous some of them only think in money

i don't have money, i don't have money, lot's of people don't have money, i don't buy records, if i had money i would buy for sure

imo trance labels shouldn't complain about filesharing..

unlike pop/rap downloaders, trance folks, don't go make cd's and sell it for their own profit(maybe a few fookers do), since there is alot of respect for producers and djs.

like a prevous poster said, sharing made EDM very famous now, and if labels start complaining now, means they are heading commercial path, like pop and rap, and i bet many people won't respect those labels, djs and producers anymore.

yea well the producers bust their asses to produce top quality tracks for us TA's to enjoy, and u know what..? They have to make a living out of this. Which means they HAVE to sell their stuff to support themselves and to put food on the table.

Since many trance artist are not signed with those big wanky record companies, they don't earn that much...

I don't think it would be very helpful if the majority of ppl just d/l shit and never buy cd's..
