Fuck man, if Dublin can do it, we can do it. This is an eventual universal thing that every city will more than likely adopt.

And even though I hate to say it, it's for the better.

THIS is roughly 10% of the parties that took place so far this year. There are tons more parties if u go to record shops and look at the flyers.

If u wanna party, u will. It's just that simple now. We don't have any woes and u don't see any of our HUGE clubs closing. Only smaller ones and that's because of a few misfortunate incidents that might have revoked their liquor licence or closed the club because of security issues.

I can't speak for NYC, but this is not like Toronto at all.

Definitely true. I still remember a time when FTWK Wednesdays would sell out weekly, with just residents!

I think what has happened is that many of the old school ravers are now geting into their 30's, even 40's, and are simply moving away from the scene and onto other things. The scene needs an influx of a new generation of clubbers in order for it to survive.

With the death of raves a few years ago also came with it a massive reduction in all ages underground events. Without any new kids being brought up in the scene this also meant fewer underground clubbers would be around today, hence why there are fewer events going on right now in Toronto. The summer definitely looks promising though...

Find me a city in North America that has a party every friday, saturday and sunday. In Toronto you got 4!! System on friday, Guvernment on saturday, Boa early sunday, then Zone till fuckin MONDAY.

Each feature absolute QUALITY DJ's on a weekly basis.

And as far as special events/internation talent goes; Only NY and Miami can hold their own in North America. And thats not always. I don't think any city has as much of an impressive line-up as T.O through till early July. Although Miami has a very nice lineup too.

You can't consider the Zone a place for good international talent or even a good vibe. The place is primarily full of people that don't feel like calling it a night yet.

The talent San Francisco brings in blows every city out of the water.... TO can't even come close to comparing. NY brings in better talent than TO as well (its not ever worth making the comparison). As for partying every night of the weekend, you have to add Thursday to the mix since its the best night to party out of the whole weekend. With that, TO fails to live up to what SF and NY have to offer.

The no-smoking law hasn't hurt the clubs in NY, LA, or SF. Not one bit actually. Its in every clubs best interest to adapt, and they will.

Try comparing Toronto to Chicago. At least there we have a chance.

The original poster made the outlandish comment that TO is the best in North America for partying from Friday to Sunday and bringing in the top talent. As TO is good, its definitely not true.

That being said, I agree that you cant compare TO to either of these cities. For example, TO is roughly half the size of NY, so it actually has about half the number of big clubs, and brings in around half the amount of international talent.

right on, that's why I think more 16+ events are needed *cough*Viva*cough*

Also, don't get so hung up on International Talent people... just because Picotto, PvD, Tiesto, Buuren, etc, etc. aren't spinning doesn't mean it's not a good party. Support your local talent!

I didn't bother looking at San Francisco. But the fact that our lineup through till july looks better than Miami's says something (even if it's just a slightly bit better). NY's isn't that far off either. And I never said that Toronto is the best at it on a weekly basis, but at certain times we can easily hold our own (like the time that I'm talking about. Now->early July). Obviously on a yearly basis Toronto can't really compare, especially to Miami and the WMC.

And Jon, comparing Toronto to Chicago is really outlandish from what my buddy, as well as a TA, has been telling me (he moved here from Chicago).

edit: i should also add, that this is all my opinion mostly. I'm not saying that this is fact, but when I see lineups from other cities, and compare it to ours, very rarely do I actually get jealous and wish we had it like that here too (save for Bal en Blanc or WMC)

You can hardly call a few large parties like the Nightmare and Hullabaloo events held throughout the year a "rave" scene anymore. The sad reality is it has been reduced to a handfull of events and exceptionally small parties. The breaks crew seems to be the only ones with any community and solidarity these days, and go weekly.. multiple times a week in summer @ that.

As for clubs, even though there is a burgeoning new group of them with stellar decor and supa-star lineups, the staples have revamped as well. Between the financial strain and the constant neighbourhood outcry against a venue everytime one opens, the management will have a difficult time over the summer, and I doubt every venue will out there currently will see summer 2005.

this part sounds like a jaded raver rant ..
