Anyway, People should be more open on trying new kinds of turntables. Technology evolves, not all non-technics turntables suck. The only reason they're still so massively sold is their reliability, where newer turntables just don't get a chance. |
prime example, i rate vestax pdx2000 turntables much higher than any 1210/00, they are £100 cheaper per deck. the deck doesn't fuck around, you can beatmatch (more) quickly and (just as) precisely with it, it has higher torque so it handles the record better (i.e. the platter doesnt lose any power when cueing and back cueing, and it isn't such a fiddly bastard to tweak), it came with a quartz motor straight away (instead of making it a bullshit excuse to add a number to it), it NEVER skips, and you can play absolutly anything without worrying if it will go fast/slow enough.
a 1210 is a deck. thats it, so why people bum them so much is a mystery to me.. fair enough they are a nice deck to use (they wouldn't have got as far as they have if it wasnt) but i truly think its time people stopped ramming them down peoples throats!
i think i've just gone on a tangent too... sorry

You're the man wildfir3, you're saying exactly what i meant.
I live in Australia, so even 2nd hand Techs cost around $1100-1400 for a pair. As Wildfir3 says, i don't shit money. Thats why i said i didn't want them.
I am a uni student, in 18 months will be graduated and earnin decent money
I am looking at some Numarks, my personal favs (never read anything bad about them) on ebay, but i think the price will go too high for me.
By beginner decks, i mean something to get started and are cheap.
Lets look at numbers... I am allowing $1000 to get started. The stanton spin cycle kit (STR8-30s, SMX-211) is $800, and am planning $100 bucks to start for vinyl, and that leaves $100 for new headphones (in the kit are shit)
Technics already said for......
Numark TT1650, new $500 each, used on ebay, hopefully 2 for $650,
Two Gemini SA900s for $500,
Everything here in Oz is expensive, and we don't have many brands such as Akiyamas (have heard good things about them). Not only that, to import is very expensive as well (we got some crazy import duties and customs taxes)
You rock Wildfir3, what a champ!
(and you're bullshit did help some, thanks everyone. More feedback will be welcome)

gutted.. that is expensive for numarks, over here, for the price you pay for 2 tt1650's is the same as what i paid for an entire package with mixer, headfones, slipmats & carts :/

The thing is, sometimes it's better to wait and get more money than spending it on a shitty turntable that you will have to replace.
So why don't you wait a few more months and buy something YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE IN YOUR LIFE (*crosses fingers*) than spending a load of cash on something you will replace after a year for sure?
Just search around in this subforum and you will find lots of people who invested in "begginer" turntables and regreted it afterwards.
