file allocation tables are basically how windows breaks your storage space down into cluster sizes.

i believe fat 16, which is virtually obsolete, uses 32kb clusters
fat 32 uses 16kb clusters
and ntfs uses 4 kb clusters

a cluster is a unit of storage. if you're using ntfs, and your fiel is 16kb, you will be using 4 units of storage. if the file is 4kb, you will use one unit of storage. however, if the file is less than 4kb, say 1kb, you will still be using a 4kb unit of storage, because that is the cluster size.

if you're using fat32, and your file is 16kb, you will be using one 16kb unit of storage. however, the saem 1kb file that occupied a 4kb unit of storage in ntfs will beusing a 16kb unit of storage in fat32, because that is the cluster size.

mtfs also allows great control over security and access permissions, provided the operating system version allows for it. ther are some minor disadvantages with older 32-bit apps, but not to worry if you don't use many legacy (old and crusty) applications.

no no, its actually a function in some scanning programs. -And I think that it tells the scanner what you are scanning

i.e.

you can select magazine and it automatically knows that you are scanning a mag.

I THINK!!!! dont go quoting me on that

now, next question...

how do i "use" (or whateva) NTFS instead of Fat32? I take it that it would be some sort of DOS operation?

If there is dimness, skew lines, dark margin or bias in the scanned image, what do I do?
You can repeat selecting the scanning source, then calibrate and scan again. If the same thing repeats, please clean your scanner lens according to the cleaning operation illustrated in the manual. For scanning color-printed photos, you can activate the "Descreen" filter to remove the dot pattern.

control panel. administrative options. computer management. You can go into your hds and itll have visual representations of the bars. select it and say format into NTFS. and it will do it.

fat 32 can only read fat 32

16 can do 16 and 32

ntfs can do all

its an issue when you have NTFS servers and fat clients. the clients cant see the server!! sucks for home networks too
