I think we do in some ways. Especially the media, they show us all the violence and crime etc and I don't know about you guys but I am becoming de-sensitised by what I see and end up not really caring as much as I should.
In terms of sport etc I think it's starting to beome a bit better, but I don't really know cos I hate footy

I also think that kids these days are more violent and out of control and personally I think they are little shits!

Yes... its true, we are coming to realise that that its becoming the norm, and it shouldn't be like that, but unfortunately thats how things shape up.

And little shits... hmmm.. i can vouch for that... funny thing is i was a teen once but i didn't act like a complete twat when i was that young...

I'd suggest we probably were all little shits when we were younger. We were just too busy thinking we were looking cool to notice.

It's all about perception I guess

hahaha yeah I think I was a little shit too ...

There seems to be quite alot of them nowadays though - Liverpool Westfields on a Thursday night OR John St. Cabramatta 3:30pm - those places are usually the most populated

I don't think these places are necessarily more dangerous than say Kings Cross in the 1970s, or the Waterloo Push in the 1860s, or any other dodgy area. Not disagreeing that they're bad areas (they are, I know!), but I don't think they're worse areas than any other in history...

it's true.

generally speaking, it's the negative things that equates to $$$ these days (ie. makes the news/press).

and yes this has filtered into sport, a lot of time the sportsperson makes (more of) their money not out of the game they play but out of the opportunities created when they can sell their stories, etc.

Blame it on the US.

I found oz to be considerably less violent and less de-sensitized to it than here in the States. You guys are still hearing about the stabbings and beatings etc. on the news....in the big cities here, murders are just a side note on the local news, and only murder cases like OJ Simpson get any national coverage.

So, you have my permission to blame all of australia's recent problems on the USA. Because for most cases, it is the truth

MrS

Edit: As an example, the city of Chicago which has a population of 3 million, had 599 murders in 2003. As a comparison, the number of reported homicides in all of NSW in 2003 was 91. Food for thought....

Just like the first time you watch Bowling for Columbine, and each country's murder rate appears on-screen...

If you actually research into some crime statistics, you'll find that rates for most crimes have actually declined over the last 10 years. We are still the worst nation in the world for car theft though...
