For some reason I'm not that scared of France. That might all change on the day of the match though. I just think that in 4 games against John Terry this season Henry's got one long range goal against a reserve goalkeeper. France are very strong in centre midfield (Vieira, Zidane etc), but England aren't exactly weak there either (Lampard and Gerrard are on fire, and Scholes is always a threat). Beckham could get the better of an ageing Lizarazu down the right flank as well. England only have one international class striker though (Owen), we need another striker to step in and make an impact in this tournament.

I think Alan Thompson should be in the Euro 2004 squad. He is the only left-sided English player I can think of who is experienced, can cross the ball, tackle, score and is in form. He has proven he can score at the highest level, his single goal knocking Barcelona out of Europe. His only chance to prove himself was an hour in a friendly against Sweden, and he did no wrong. Eriksson has made a mistake in missing him out of the squad.

Hoping it is Switzerland since I am from there but best bet is either Italia or France.

Very true. If Thompson was in the squad i would have a lot more faith in England but we never have a good outlet on the left who can put a first time ball into the box.

have to agree with you there. Thomson has been on great form for us this season and has delived from set pieces and open-play time after time.

He has a great work rate and (not that you'll need it) gives you another option from free kicks on goal. I was disappointed with sven's attitude towards thomson, it was as if he didn't give a fuck about him. I think in the sweden game, everything that was played went down the right and defoe had the chance to play him in and decided to keep the ball.

i get the feeling if he showed this kind of form at villa, he'd be a regular in the england team

That's what I can't stand about Sven's selection policy, he chooses players based on prestige rather than on form or on where they fit in his tactical plans. Take for example Butt, Dyer and J.Cole. Cole and Dyer are dubious selections, they're inconsistent and have attitude problems while Butt is 29 and has never been a first team regular. They wouldn't be in the squad if they didn't play for top 5 clubs. He only starting considering Scott Parker after he moved to Chelsea, and Heskey's days are probably numbered now that he's gone to Birmingham (although I would have no complaints there).

On the subject of Heskey, a better choice would be Ameobi. He's just as big, faster, holds the ball up better, can beat a man, strike the ball well and most importantly, he can score. If you look at the minutes they've played this season, Heskey has had approximately 27 games worth of football. He's scored 7 times. Ameobi has played approximately 17 games worth of football, and scored 7 as well. Neither are good enough but England are desperate for strikers, and Heskey's experience counts for little when he's consistently shit. Get Ameobi in the squad and show Heskey the door.

i'd put my money on netherlands, but then again they were also my favourites for like the last 4 big international competitions, and they won nothing who knows, maybe portugal will win it to completely break the logic

Not sure I agree. Brazil scored just before half time which was a horrible blow for England, and then came out in the second half and immediately scored a freak goal which was meant to be a cross from a free-kick. It was quite an even game which could have gone differently on another day but Brazil is Brazil and people tend to exaggerate their performances. Brazil were there for the taking but England screwed up their lead and then gave the game away with a horrendous goalkeeping error.
