Ok. I gave it another listen (even though I just wanted to throw it away or give it to somebody at work). I wanted to be fair and give it another chance, though. No dice. Still sucks.
I've decided what it is that I don't like about this album.
a.) The vocals are really, really bad. Not cheese, mind you. Just bad.
b.) Some of the tracks are reptitive to the point where they become almost monotonous.
c.) Far too many of the beats and melodies bear a resemblance to hip hop. I realize that Liam used to be a DJ for a group in that genre, but The Prodigy has never been a hip hop group.
d.) It sounds like one person (Liam) had most of the control over what made it into the final cut of the album. That's fine... if it's something like the Dirtchamber Sessions. This was supposed to be a Prodigy release, though. Where's the variety like we had with Fat of the Land?
e.) The energy just isn't there with this release. It doesn't feel like they put as much heart into it as they did with Fat of the Land and Music for the Jilted Generation. I mean... Fat of the Land was one of the highest-energy, bangin' albums ever made. How in the world did Liam come off of that with this?
Methinks it was too long between releases. The Prodigy lost the edge.

On the production end of things, as far as I know, it's always been Liam.

It has, but the other members of the "group" contributed a LOT to the FotL and MftJG production. This one just sounds like Liam locked himself in a room for a few weeks and banged something out.

They only contributed vocals... and on MFTJG that was on about two tracks.
compared to their previous albums, this albums really does suck. i read somewhere that this album was meant to be a cross between fat of the land and jilted gen, but it doenst sound one bit like either.

You really think so or are you trying to be sarcastic?
IMO it's horrible and doesn't come anywhere near to the greatness of Experience or Music For The Jilted Generation, never been a huge fan of Fat Of The Land but even that is infinitely better than this new effort.

I'm a firm believer that artists new albums should be screened and if the album is shit then the original is destroyed and the artists are put down like old yella.
