I think this is the type of music that you may find unsettling and unusual at first, but much repeated listening will gradually acclimate you to these types of sounds. It reminds me of how certain great classical composers from the West, once exposed to the traditional East Indian scales and modes and the structures put forth by a practitioner of the artform such as Ravi Shankar, strove to understand and weave this new cultural fabric into their own tunes. Or, to use another example: not unlike Bartok taking the folk music of his travels and fusing that into his own tapestry:

http://www.essentialsofmusic.com/composer/bartok.html

I do believe playing Ibizan anthems for the aboriginal peoples of some lands would have them very restless indeed, and full of questions! Full circle we go, a type of cyber-shamanism.

In modern times, Simon and Raja of Shpongle are well known for their use of clashing traditional flute music and electronic beats, mixing up time signatures -- dizzyingly at times -- and other techniques as gate effecting to increase hypnotism and beat morphing where the beats go from straightlaced in one bar to swinging and gr00vy in the next 8, or 16.

This is kind of music you might go:

"HOLY CRAP! THIS IS WACK-ASS!"

before settling into a more euclidean mode. Maybe, maybe not.

But either way,

Ahhh... the wonder of music.

great track! the monkey sounds dont belong in the track imo but given its raja ram and mr bosford, anything goes i guess. i agree with with everyone who said that the spanish guitars in the end are just great for the track. i love hearing the guitars come in after those vocals. if anyone know what the vocals are or mean during the guitar sequence, please share. thanks.

Check out Shpongle's two first albums 'Are You Shpongeled?' and 'Tales Of The Inexpressible'. On the second one there is a lot of that latin influence. Really awesome music, by that genious of a producer Simon Posford.

Yeah it's a single from their forthcoming album. No release dates or anything on it though. It was on the flipside of Lo-Steps remix of their Dorset Perception track (Sasha fave of last year) which was released a few months ago on Twisted records.

This track seems to suffer from ADD. It jumps all over the place and can't find a place to settle down. It just keeps twisting and turning...

Not that it's a bad thing, I guess... I just need to listen it a few more times, it hasn't really opened up for me...
