Yeah, you dispelled my disrespectful ways for time being.
I have never been in a true fist-fight, but I've had a lot of controlled combat training nonetheless (Martial arts). I voted 'no' though, because, though I'm REALLY not a confontational person, I believe that if the moment came down to either fighting or being prey, I would use all my physical ability to exert my will over the situation. I think a lot of people here voted 'yes' to pacifism because (thankfully) many of us do not have to put up with street violence on a daily basis and are not forced to defend ourselves [physically] very often, or at all as the case might be. Most of us live in stable countries that have relative internal peace. When we are truly faced with a challenge though, would most of us still promote pacifism when at the complete mercy of another's fist or gun barrel? It's easy to look around you, see peace and totally agree with it - this is what living should be like. But if things were different, how would the situation dictate our perception?
I side with the passion of the fight - it is at this exertion that the true, honest fervence of human potential is unearthed and we can truly realize what it is to have shape and form. The numbness of peace is just too much for some people, I guess.
I'm not a war-monger by any means. But, if I am understanding the context by which pacifism is implied here, one does not need to seek out war and troubles to come upon them - they seem to follow you sometimes. Might as well be prepared to address them, and also have the will to decide when the time comes.
