first, go to run, and type msconfig. then click on the startup tab, then scroll down and take out messenger.

restart your computer, keep pressing f8 after it has done the POST sequence (memory checks, drive checks etc)

select safe mode with command prompt

log on as administrator

at the command prompt type cd\program files\messenger and press return

type del *.* and press return

restart your computer and a box will come up letting you know that you have changed some startup settings.. tick the box that says 'dont run system config at startup'. you no longer have messenger.

although scanning back down the thread, _Nut_ has a quicker way
