On Election day, I won't be in Calgary to vote, so i went to the office in downtown Calgary today to vote. I'm just sick of all these old fogeys (well, harper's not that old - but still..) who have these platforms that are based on what Canada may or may not have needed 15 years ago. Today is totally different and I think we should shift our interests into other things.
Harper's probably gonna get in. But either way, I supported the Green party this time around. Yup, voted GREEN. I know they may not make it. But over the years, I have faith that people will start listening to them and taking them seriously. They have a lot of good ideas that I liked. But i know not everyone agrees. Well, at least I voted. I really wish more people would vote. Damn it, I can't believe how many people I've met so far that aren't voting. LAME! VOTE!!

I, frankly, don't ever want to be more like the US. Sure Martin is struggling to keep a firm hold on his ground but I say him or Layton over Harper any day. So I'm still undecided.
Oh, by the way, the Bloc is a joke. |
Yup..Bloc IS a Joke. I mean come on..do you seriously think you're going to get elected with an attitude like that? Why would anyone give the keys to this country to a lunatic who's probably all bent out of shape about the rest of Canada and will separate it later on. Fuck that. You just know if the Bloc ever got in that they would do everything in their power to benefit citizens of Quebec while leaving the rest of the country to rot and giving it the shaft.
The other idiot I saw that was running for the "Christian Heritage Party" here's another nimrod.. Trying to meld Religious beliefs with state. In a country as multicultural as Canada...how the fuck are you going to get votes when you're pushing anti-gay laws, and basically trying to make the bible the new Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Fuck off and get real. In this day and age, you're never going to win any respect or votes if you're beakin' off about how gay people are hurting themselves and the rest of society. I'm not gay, but I stand by thier right to do whatever the fuck they want. Why is someone else's private life in their bedroom any of our business? It's not. If they want to marry, shit, they can get married, who cares? But that's just my opinion. I think there are a lot bigger problems in the country than gays wanting to marry. Good thing this party doesn't really stand a chance..i'd hate to see a party like that have power. Pfff...Tea Bag In-The-Ocean WEAK!
No wonder I voted Green. Seems like those are the only guys who actually have an idea of what this country really needs. Too bad that asshole Harper's probably gonna get in.

So from a non-Canadian's point of view, it was a bit like watching a bunch of school kids in the park. "Whoever talks loudest, gets heard". Admitedly I watched about 5mins of the English debate, but it was watching 4 people with 0 respect for each each other. They'd ask each other a question and then try and shout down their answer, though half the time they'd answer a totally different question.
It's also pretty strange that I've yet to hear what the Liberals actually stand for. They're so scared of the Conservatives, that all they're doing is negative politicing, trying to scare people with stories about what the Conservatives might do, instead of focusing on what they, the Liberals will do.
The Conservatives keep having to argue against the picture that the Liberals are painting of them.
The Bloc and the NDP, no one actually seems to take them that seriously.
Though this is just my impression from watching a small amount of the debate and reading the newspapers.

this is a good point, i think the liberals and thier supporters assume that because the have been in power for as long as i can remember, everyone knows and understands what they stand for.
This also touches on an interesting idea that people will simple want the liberals held accountable and not punished for thier errors (most blatant being fiscal mismanagment).
People are scared for the drastic changes that a slide to the far left or far right would trigger, thus will vote for what they already know and hope that it gets better. I agree with this.
The liberals only problem is thier current lack of transparency. i believe a transparent liberal party as well as empowered government (at all levels) would be the strongest solution for canada. Gradual change and transparence. simple.

The funniest part is they will never win. It is actually impossible. The only people that can vote for the Bloc are Quebec citizens and they do not make up enough of the whole population of Canada to see them in power. Unless, of course, no one chooses to vote anywhere else in Canada and all Quebec citizens vote for the Bloc, but that is unlikely. I say shut up and stop running for a useless cause.
