| quote: | | Paul Oakenfold did a much better job mixing last november and that set actually gains more credibility compared to the performance last night by Tiesto. |
meh, oaki plays shit though, his best track that night was 1000 Beautiful things.
I really enjoyed tiest's set in nyc. Alot of people take his "harsh" mixing for trainwrecks. He is the only dj that really has that style. If you dont like it don't go. IMO it really keeps the energy between tracks, where as you will notice other djs will lose a lot like armin, even if you hear a double beet once in a while its gonna happen. Yea there are good ways to swap frequences, aka pvd, but I enjoy tiestos mixing as well.
Its much more aggessive then the, "slowly fade in, ops i need to match again, snowly fade in, ops its off a bid, match again, aah thereits perfect then slowly mix."
Its just a different style. And for the record @ avalon, Tiesto did key match a few tracks, and it sounded really good. He also had a bunch of "long mixes" in and out of each other, if anyone picked that up, doubt it though.

He had no long mixes at all here.I understand what your saying with the losing of energy with mixing.Armin did that alot at Roxy in April but his mixing 3 weeks ago in Boston was almost perfect.I knew several people who had just seen Tiesto in nyc as well. They said he mixed better there for sure and the track selection was much better too.I also read about the crossfader slams from Avalon Nyc.He did that on a few mixes but overall they were pretty weak and he introduced a track at a bad time.He mixed out of tracks during a breakdown a couple of times as well.He didn't put out that much effort last night and I feel he could have done much better.I wasn't expecting him to be Sasha behind the decks but seriously that was just terrible. He had major problems beatmatching the whole night...That isnt harsh mixing that is TERRIBLE mixing. It was louie devito status at some points. It wasn't just one or two mixes either. It was basicly an entire night of shitty mixing.
Also I really think that Tiesto played a much better set the last time he was here in Boston.I have it on cd.It was a much better set, mixing wise and track selection. If he played anywhere near as good as that 10-17-02 night I would have no complaints about last night.

Agreed, Tiesto was simply off the mark last night. The track selection was decent, I was really surprised to hear Signs From The Universe there... I absolutely love that track. I also think his set back in 2002 was far superior to this one. Although it did make me happy being able to hear Love Comes Again.
As for mixing, Tiesto's beat matching was ok, but he did trainwreck at least one transition that I remember.
On a side note... is Tiesto usually not receptive to the crowd like he was yesterday? I tried to get a picture with him, but he would just hide in the DJ booth and not want to sign autographs nor get pictures taken... blah. Armin, PvD, J00F, Nick Warren, Ferry, Scott Bond, all never had that problem. Bleh, I hate Avalon's bouncers.
Pat it was nice to meet ya last night. Looks like we're on for Max Graham on Friday night as well?
He also played White Room - White Room
